* FashionVictimVillain: It's bad enough that the regular troops of the Mariemaia Army wear Nazi-style uniforms that have all potential coolness or intimidation factor ruined by coloring the shirts an eye-searing pink. But their "M"-emblem on their service hats make them look like [=McDonald's=] employees on top of it.

But their "M"-emblem on their service hats make them look like [=McDonald's=] employees on top of it. Dekim Barton's outfit in particular comes off as uniquely terrible fashion sense, thanks to his decision to wear a crowned fez with a giant goosefeather plume ''and'' a [[FurAndLoathing black fur collared greatcoat]] with an absurd number of buttons.

* CompleteMonster: [[NotSoWellIntentionedExtremist Dekim Barton]] is the [[GreaterScopeVillain original mastermind]] behind Operator Meteor, plotting to [[ColonyDrop drop a colony upon Earth]] and send the Gundams to raze what remained until it submitted to his rule. Upon the rebellion of the Gundam scientists and pilots, Dekim lies low, [[GruesomeGrandparent brainwashing his granddaughter Mariemaia Khushrenada]] to be the figurehead leader of the Barton family. Returning to conquer Earth, Dekim attempts to complete Operation Meteor with a new colony drop and murder Relena Peacecraft for trying to inspire the world to pacifism. Upon his own granddaughter TakingTheBullet for Relena, Dekim merely sneers that he can simply find another Mariemaia, as he is the one who created her to begin with.

** Is Mariemaia really Treize's daughter, or did Dekim lie to her? [[spoiler:The question is never given a definitive answer, though the novel and manga hint that she's not, since Dekim's FamousLastWords are "I can make another Mariemaia if need be! After all, I found her on the stree-" ]] However, Mariemaia is definitely Treize's daughter as indicated by Episode Zero, in which an injured Treize is cared for by Leia Barton. Whether or not the Maremaia seen in the movie is the real one or not is another matter entirely.\\

* {{Squick}}: The original Trowa Barton, a grown man, for some reason, finds it necessary to drape himself over Nanashi (a teenage boy) [[spoiler: who would later assume his identity]], just to show him a family picture. Nanashi doesn't show obvious discomfort in the original OVA, but he's more uncomfortable-looking in the ''Glory of the Losers'' manga.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: Not so much characters, but mechs. Even though each Gundam got redesigned to amp up the [[RuleOfCool coolness factor]], only Wing Zero and Altron see any action over the course of the film. Deathscythe Hell, Sandrock, and Heavyarms are only briefly seen at the end, and don't get a lot of opportunities to show their stuff.

The English dub makes this somewhat more ambiguous, with Dekim saying [[spoiler:"We can always create another Mariemaia! I made her, after all!"]]. This could possibly be interpreted as Dekim staking his claim as TheManBehindTheMan. Dekim might have used Mariemaia's parentage as a pretext for turning her into a figurehead, but claims that if she were gone, he could do the same thing to any other girl he finds. A bit of a stretch, true, but that's why we have this trope.
