* CounterpartComparison: A MysteriousWaif whose very being is directly connected to the kingdom she rules, is OlderThanSheLooks, and in the wake of a great evil calls upon the aid of people from another world to accomplish what her own people cannot. Are we talking about Princess Emeraude, or the [[Literature/TheNeverendingStory Childlike Empress]]?

* GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff: Or should we say, Latin Americans Love ''[[CompletelyDifferentTitle Guerreras Mágicas]]''. It's not without reason: it aired in between the 6th or 7th rerun of ''[[SaintSeiya Caballeros del Zodiaco]]'', ''DragonBall'' hadn't hit yet, ''Manga/RanmaOneHalf'' was silly, ''Anime/SlamDunk'' was on a chaotic rotation, ''Anime/{{Escaflowne}}'' took ages to get anywhere, and ''Anime/BtX'' also had a hectic airing. ''Rayearth'' was in comparison a well balanced, well written, [[MultipleDemographicAppeal both-genders-appealing]] soap opera with action and adventure. The tune was catchy too, and it was one of the first anime series to air with its intro mostly intact since since ''Anime/MazingerZ''.

** Debonair [[spoiler: abandoning and then trying to kill the local JerkAssWoobie, Nova, who can be considered as her daughter. And then killing Eagle ''and'' Alcyone - and in the second case, when she was ''this'' close to a HeelFaceTurn.]]

* CompleteMonster: Most characters get a sympathetic, or at least understandable, motive for what they do. The exception is the BigBad from the anime’s second season. [[EldritchAbomination Lady Debonair]], [[TheHeartless born from the collective fears]] of Cephiro's people, wants to [[OmnicidalManiac destroy the world]] for no understandable reason, cannot be reasoned with, and will use any despicable trick in the book to get her way. She abandons her own "daughter", Nova, to her fate after she fails in defeating the Magic Knights. She was the one who killed the very popular AntiVillain Eagle Vision for no reason at all and got [[{{Yandere}} the already unstable]] Alcyone completely BrainwashedAndCrazy so she could become her DarkActionGirl [[TheDragon Dragon]], killing her when the MindControl completely broke.

** Emeraude can count. She [[spoiler:erased her brother's memories on his request]] and [[spoiler:fell hopelessly in love with Zagato, prompting her to summon the Magic Knights to kill her and Zagato to kidnap her]]. The majority of the time Emeraude is seen, she either has a sad look on her face or is ''tears''. The only time she's seen smiling is when [[spoiler:the Knights ''kill'' her and she gets to reunite with Zagato]].
