* GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff: Or should we say, Latin Americans Love Guerreras Mágicas. It's not without reason: it aired in between the 6th or 7th rerun of Caballeros del Zodiaco, DragonBall hadn't hit yet, Manga/RanmaOneHalf was silly, Anime/SlamDunk was on a chaotic rotation, Anime/Escaflowne took ages to get anywhere, and Anime/BtX also had a hectic airing. Rayearth was in comparison a well balanced, well written, both-genders-appealing soap opera with action and adventure. The tune was catchy too, and it was one of the first anime series to air with its intro mostly intact since since Anime/MazingerZ.

* CompleteMonster: Most characters get a sympathetic, or at least understandable, motive for what they do. The exception is the BigBad from the anime’s second season. Lady Debonair, born from the collective fears of Cephiro's people, wants to destroy the world for no understandable reason, cannot be reasoned with, and will use any despicable trick in the book to get her way. She abandons her own "daughter", Nova, to her fate after she fails in defeating the Magic Knights. She was the one who killed the very popular AntiVillain Eagle Vision for no reason at all and got Yandere the already unstable Alcyone completely BrainwashedAndCrazy so she could become her DarkActionGirl Dragon, killing her when the MindControl completely broke.

The majority of the time Emeraude is seen, she either has a sad look on her face or is tears. * HilariousInHindsight: Innova doesn't really fit in with most of the cast's VehicularThemeNaming, until Toyota actually released a car called the "Innova."
** Not exactly: during the manga's release there was a Honda motorcycle called the Innova (actually it was the Honda Wave in Japan, but it was marketed in Europe as the Innova).

** Thanks to Hikaru's LoveYouAndEveryone and Eagle and Lantis' preinstalled HoYay, they're also a popular threesome.

Added DiffLines:

* PeripheryDemographic: The SwordsAndSorcery and HumongousMecha elements have attracted a share of Shonen fans as well. (A few of them insist that it is shonen for GirlShowGhetto reasons, but they're incorrect. It's a shoujo story with giant robots.)

* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation: In the manga, did Zagato ?
** The fact that [[spoiler:her death makes it look as though she sublimates into swirling gas could indicate the former. It's a pretty weird way to go naturally, and she specifically begs him for mercy. None of Zagato's other minions liked her very much, and Emeraude wasn't around to see- so it wouldn't affect their opinions of him]].
** On the other hand [[spoiler:"mercy" could just mean a healing spell, and he doesn't make any spellcasting movements or say anything. Plus she was already dragging herself on the ground from her wounds- which had been inflicted by magic and could possibly result in sublimation- requiring him to do nothing more than stand there and let it happen]].
** Another explanation [[spoiler:Is it possible that Alcyone was already dying from her injuries inflicted upon her by Umi and Hikaru and Zagato had no healing powers, he wasn't a healer so there was nothing he could do and it was too late to ask someone else to help? Also since his minions were watching, he had to put on this You have failed me face so the others would know they couldn't get away for failing because he had to protect his love." ]].
*** Hmmm... [[spoiler: The closest to a healer that Zagato had around was... Princess Emeraude herself. (In the anime, she was seen healing Zagato's hand few before he died). Zagato may have been GenreSavvy enough to believe that, while Emeraude wouldn't refuse to heal someone who needs it, Yandere Alcyone herself wouldn't react well and would go the MurderTheHypotenuse way. (Which she does attempt to do in the anime.)]]

** Fans and reviewers will often describe Fuu as shy or a wallflower, even though her very first action in the series is to walk up to a complete stranger and give her a gift. In fact, she shows no inclinations towards shyness or timidity through the entire series. Being thoughtful and an avid gamer does not overlap with shyness, people. Plus she's next to Hikaru and Umi for most of the story--and most people would look quiet and reserved next to those two.
** Some fans assume that Hikaru is poor because she doesn't go to a fancy private school like Umi and Fuu and her house is a kendo dojo. But it's definitely a BigFancyHouse anyway, just a more traditionally Japanese one--which means the Shidous are just as loaded as the Hououjis and Ryuuzakis.

* FanPreferredCouple: Although Umi/ is a kind of BetaCouple (though an unrequited one) in Part II, Umi/Clef is a very popular pairing in the fanbase because of the way their initial antagonism gives way to mutal respect and concern. Doesn't hurt that Caldina teases Umi about the possibility in the anime.
