** "The Kill Zone" has animals rapidly aging and dying due to a mysterious virus, and the scientist behind it accidentally contaminates herself and her dog with it, and Macgyver and Pete can only watch in horror as both rapidly age and die before their eyes.

** In "Gold Rush", the Colonel mentions (falsely) that, if he had things his way, he'd give the gold to the "Afghan freedom fighters". MacGyver was filmed during the Cold War. Osama Bin Laden led those "Afghan Freedom Fighters". Now look at the world as it is today.

* The episode "Humanity" is full of them. The plot revolves around Mac saving the life of an enemy soldier and trying to turn him to good. The soldier's backstory is horrifying: [[spoiler: He used to be a ChildSoldier under a cruel dictator. During training, he made friends with another boy, only for his commander to force him to kill the other boy. And then there's the ending. Normally, you'd expect the episode to end with the soldier escaping to the US and living happily. Not this time. He pulls a TakingYouWithMe against his evil commander, blowing them both up with a grenade. At the end all Mac can do is sadly honor the man for his selflessness.]] It's arguably one of the most depressing episodes of the entire show.

** Subverted: fell to death during a mountain climbing expedition, and Mac's thrashing at the end of the rope as he tries to save was rather callously added to the opening credits.

* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: The main theme not only sounds, well, Awesome, but it also sums the show up about as perfectly as any lyricless tune possibly could. The subdued electronic intro is accompanied by scenes of someone fiddling with gizmos and sciency stuff, segueing in to a shot of a bomb timer counting down as the volume rises, before the show title literally explodes on to the screen and the main theme begins to accompany a montage of thrilling action shots. Wow! Makes James Bond Walking along before turning to shoot someone seem pretty damn lame by comparison.
