* ItsEasySoItSucks: The game received some criticism for its short length and simple interface for being too easy. VideoGame/SpaceQuestIV mocks this by featuring a similarly titled game called Boom with no inventory, no interface, or any kind of interactivity at all.

Added DiffLines:

* PortingDisaster: Some people feel the VGA upgrade for the FM-Towns and talkie CD re-release is this, with the quality of the VGA artwork resulting in divided opinions. While the Towns version is usually regarded as superior to the talkie release due to all the original dialogue being intact, it suffers from an improper aspect ratio. For the talkie release, while the quality of the vocal performances are top-notch, the rewritten and condensed dialogue has proven a bone of contention for many, and some of the VGA upgrades made for the Towns were not implemented here, resulting in jarring moments where the original EGA artwork clashes with the changed aesthetic.

* ParodyDisplacement: Thanks to multiple rereleases of VideoGame/TheSecretOfMonkeyIsland, and it's "Ask me about LOOM" gag in the opening tavern, more people are familiar with said gag instead of LOOM itself.

* PresumedFlop: Due to the intended sequels never materializing and the fact that it's a bit overshadowed by other [=LucasArts=] adventures, many mistakenly assume the game was a flop on release. In actuality, it did fairly well, and even performed well enough to warrant a sequel, but the development team simply decided to pursue other commitments. In fact, it was successful enough to get an UpdatedRerelease, which would absolutely have not happened had it truly done poorly.

* WhatAnIdiot: The Glassmakers and their scythe of sharpness. They've spent a lot of time and effort preparing a super-weapon that empowers one person to defend against an invading army. But when they have the chance to use it, they decide that wielding such destructive power makes them as bad as the enemy.
** spends most of the climax telling Bobbin to , and Bobbin keeps saying that he doesn't know that draft. Chaos was right there--she knew that Bobbin didn't know the relevant draft and that he needed it to foil her plan. Why on earth did Chaos use it in front of him? Even worse, in some versions of the game, Chaos clearly knows another draft with a similar effect: she uses something else (probably ) on . doesn't work on --why didn't Chaos just use that draft on ?

* OlderThanTheyThink: Many people will mistakenly attribute VideoGame/TheSecretOfMonkeyIsland as the first [=LucasArts=] adventure where you can't die or reach dead ends (possibly due to Creator/RonGilbert being the most vocal critic of them at the time). That honor actually belongs to this game, which was released ten months earlier.
