!! Visual Novel YMMV:
* CreepyCute: Despite the fact that John Doe is a messy haired HumanoidAbomination with creepy teeth and a disturbing personality, some fans find his design to be oddly cute. Crosses over with UglyCute in this case.
* JerkassWoobie: John Doe is not a nice person in the slightest, but some fans can't help but feel bad for him when they play through all the game's endings and [[IJustWantToBeLoved learn about his true intentions.]]
* UglyCute: John Doe's design provides this reaction in some viewers.
* UnnecessaryMakeover: [[InvertedTrope Inverted]]. John Doe's design in John Doe + tends to be more popular with fans that his design in the original version of the game.

Added DiffLines:

* BestKnownForTheFanservice: Promotional material and even cast interviews ahead of the show's premiere focused very heavily on the incidental information that the series opens with the lead character in the nude. It got so much attention that Creator/DominicPurcell was even forced to admit that the brief butt shot featured in the scene was provided by a [[StuntDouble body double]]. The scene was well-remembered enough that when ''Series/KyleXY'' premiered four years later with a basically identical opening scene, it drew constant comparisons to ''John Doe'', which was cancelled after a season and by that point had been off the air for three years.

* ItsShortSoItSucks: While sucks might be too strong a word, some fans were disappointed that the series ended so abruptly.

* JumpingTheShark: During most of the series, the protagonist/narrator voice insisted that [[spoiler: there was nothing paranormal about his abilities]]. The last couple of episodes before cancellation showed that this wasn't the case.
** When Karen [[spoiler: was killed]] , ironically her looking for supernatural answers kept the plot grounded.
