** The series proper seems to have a decent LGBT following in general, come to think of it. This might be helped by several EvilIsSexy Millennium members of both genders coming across as AmbiguouslyGay, Integra's and Seras' LesYay, Yumie and Heinkel's implied LesYay ([[ShrugOfGod if you want to think of Heinkel as a woman]]), heaps of HoYay and FoeYay across the board (particularly Alucard/Anderson and Alucard/Major), Alucard's [[spoiler: GenderBender]] past with Young Walter, plenty of FanService and FetishFuel for people of all genders and orientations, etc.

* MagnificentBastard: The Major, who demonstrates his charisma and passion with a speech of his love of war, all to motivate his troops to begin a war that levels London, while manipulating all of his enemies into doing exactly what he wants them to do when he wants them to do it. He seems to conduct everything like the conductor of a symphony, which is even lampshaded at one point. He also came up with a plan to defeat his biggest enemy, the near immortal vampire, Alucard, while still managing to maintain his own humanity on his own terms, and not to any external powers. [[spoiler: Considering that Alexander Anderson sacrificed his own humanity in order to try overcoming Alucard, much to Alucard's sorrow, this is an impressive achievement for the Major.]] When all is said and done, the Major may as well have succeeded.

** Rip Van Winkle. Overall a totally unimportant character, but she's incredibly fondly remembered for her design, quirky behavior, and abilities.

* OlderThanTheyThink: Due to its much greater success, it's not so easy to find people who know that Alucard's combination of handgun, red coat and round yellow sunglasses is a direct homage to Vash The Stampede from ''Manga/{{Trigun}}'', a work which Hirano was a big fan of before writing ''Hellsing''. You can even read the words "Trigun Maximum" in Zorin Blitz's tattoos as another homage.

* BaseBreakingCharacter: Incognito, the BigBad. Some consider it a genuinely, otherwordly scary villain, specially when compared to the more mundane antagonists from Millennium, while others believe he is bland fellow who fails at making any impact and whose character and backgrounds are too strange for the context of ''Hellsing''.
* BrokenBase: Some fans love the TV series, some think it sucks. Points in favor of the series are that it fleshes out Seras a lot more as a character and explores the method by which the artificial vamps are made. Also the music. Points against it? Well, Incognito wasn't quite up to snuff compared to the manga-original villains.
* DeaderThanDisco: Much like with original the original ''Anime/FullmetalAlchemist'' 2003 series, the original ''Hellsing'' adaptation from Gonzo underwent something similar against the later ''Hellsing Ultimate''. The original was [[GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff an underground phenomenon in America]], praised for its excellent dub, interesting take on vampires, and badass fight scenes. Then ''Ultimate'' came along, got the dub voice cast back, explored the mythology, and [[BloodierAndGorier took the fight scenes]] UpToEleven. It also increased interest in the original manga... and then people realized just how much [[OvertookTheManga the Gonzo series had overtaken it]]. Cue people picking it apart for the usual Gonzo sins, including [[OffModel cheap animation]] and an abrupt GeckoEnding. Today, the Gonzo adaptation is mostly remembered for [[CrowningMusicOfAwesome its soundtrack]] (and to some its AlternateCharacterInterpretation of Seras as the viewpoint character), while ''Ultimate'' has achieved an iconic status.

* LoveItOrHateIt: The state of the Gonzo series nowadays. People hate it for being a failed adaptation with weak plots and uncharismatic original characters or love it for fleshing out Seras and featuring the unique style common to Chiaki Konaka's works.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: Some fans believe the TV anime had some interesting ideas and takes on the story that were bogged down by writing and budget problems.

* TheyChangedItNowItSucks: Why some ''Hellsing'' fans dislike the TV series.
** It goes both ways, since some fans who saw the TV series first prefer it to the manga and OVA.

to:

* {{Narm}}: The redesign of Anderson's bayonets. Badass as he could be while using them, the animation style makes his weapons look an unfortunate lot like palette knifes.

Added DiffLines:

* WTHCastingAgency: Tasio Alonso's casting and performance as Alucard in the Spanish dub are huge points of discussion in the country. His intensely gruff, raspy tone, completely different to Creator/JojiNakata's booming voice, is considered to be either a better choice for a character like him or a ridiculous source of narm.

** Most of the evil characters who die within the first five [=OVAs=] are this. Many of them have some really interesting power mixed with a really unique appearance. And many of them die simply because they aren't Alucard, Anderson, or Walter
