* ArcFatigue: It's obvious that Tsukushi will end up with Tsukasa in the end but she remains indecisive, hating him or thinking about Rui instead.

* ValuesDissonance: Tsukasa was considered extremely attractive for his BastardBoyfriend personality. Nowadays, it is common to see people note how unhealthy and abusive his behavior is. He constantly slaps Tsukushi around, attempts to rape Tsukushi four times over the course of the series and breaks the neck of one of Tsukushi's friends out of jealousy.

He constantly slaps Tsukushi around, attempts to rape Tsukushi four times over the course of the series and breaks the neck of one of Tsukushi's friends out of jealousy. Notably, all the drama adaptations cut out a huge amount of his jerkass behavior and tone down his insensitivity.

Added DiffLines:

* EndingFatigue: It drags on and on for a total of 244 chapters when it could have ended much sooner. The mangaka was running out of ideas with the many random events thrown in to keep the romance interesting. [[spoiler: Tsukushi and Tsukasa spend countless chapters wanting to sleep together but they ''never'' go through with it. Not even in the bonus story.]]

* FunnyAneurysmMoment: Iu-universe, in the live-action. In the first season, Rui incites an F4 brawl by pretending to have feelings for Makino to test Tsukasa's own feelings for her. When it's over, he warns Tsukasa that if he ever hurts Makino, Rui "won't hold back," implying he'll beat him up again. Everyone laughs it off. Come second season, when Rui unrepentantly admits he kissed her, he reminds Tsukasa of those words. Rui really ''was'' in love with Makino back then, and by not holding back, he meant that if Tsukasa screwed up Rui would pursue her for himself.

When it's over, he warns Tsukasa that if he ever hurts Makino, Rui "won't hold back," implying he'll beat him up again. Everyone laughs it off. * {{Life Imitates Art}}: The actor and actress that portrayed Domyouji and Makino in the drama adaptation, Jun Matsumoto and Mao Inoue, have similar personalities with their fictional counterparts. Their relationship off-set developed in a curiously parallel route as Domyouji and Makino's -- they started of with bad impressions of each other, Jun tried to win back into Mao's favor, Mao was in love with someone else at the time (apparently she had a boyfriend during HYD filming), two years passed and finally Jun won her heart during the filming of HYD:F movie. (They have not admitted their relationship to the public, though there have been couple sightings and matching clothes going on between them.)
** In interviews they flirt and bicker all the time, which have strong vibes of Domyouji/Makino's dynamics.

* SeinfeldIsUnfunny: Was a pretty influential work in the {{Shojo}} genre, so it's possible for someone to read the original manga and marvel at how TropeOverdosed it is without understanding that it pioneered the use of many of Shojo tropes.

* UnfortunateImplications: Tsukasa is a pretty horrible person at the beginning of the series, although he's been toned down in pretty much every successive adaptation. In all continuities however he's at least introduced as a violent, unabashed bully. In the manga he sexually assaults the heroine. Even as the series goes on, he still does extremely questionable things and is exceptionally violent.
