* DiagnosedByTheAudience: Kageyama is often speculated to have some sort of disorder due to his personality. He has difficulty expressing his emotions in a healthy manner and understanding the emotions of others. Outside of volleyball, he's a very literal thinker and volleyball seems to be the only thing he's interested in.

Taking out Solia K. Rabu and But why? examples from Memetic Mutation as I don't think I've ever seen them that widespread within the fandom let alone outside the fandom (the examples not explaining how/why they're memes doesn't help). Per the guidelines of Nightmare Fuel outlined in the NF cleanup thread, examples have to be a strong case of frightening viewers for them to count — these examples are only mildly scary at most, so removing.

TeamMom and TeamDad levels even extend to other teams, i.e Yaku is the TeamMom of Nekoma, with the "father" either being Lev Haiba (popularised due to the Yaku/Haiba fandom) or Kuroo (who plays a similar strict but good-natured fatherly captain role to Daichi.[[/labelnote]]

** [[IncrediblyLamePun Solia K. Rabu]]. [[labelnote:Explanation]]Kuroo and Bokuto get sidetracked when Tsukishima earnestly asks for them and Akaashi advice about doing club activities. In Japanese, the two third years mishear Tsukishima saying "takaga bukatsu" as "tada no bukatsu" (both mean "only a club"), giving them an epiphany that it sounds like a name ("Tada Nobukatsu", in Japanese naming order), puzzling Tsukishima and Akaashi; one of the fan translations phrases this as "only a club" and "solely a club", with the third years thinking the latter phrase sounds like the name Solia ("solely a") K. Rabu ("club").[[/labelnote]]

** "You should have come to Shiratorizawa." [[labelnote:Explanation]]Ushijima thinks that Oikawa is wasting his talents at Aoba Johsai and should have gone to the strongest school to be his setter. Instead of telling him this when it would be effective, however, Ushijima decides that to ''open'' their conversation this way minutes after Aoba Johsai lost to Karasuno. It comes on pretty strong, and you get the idea that Oikawa has heard this sentiment before. [[/labelnote]]

Fans as a result love to mimic this line when making fun of Ushijima's apparent obsession with Oikawa and will joke that it's the only thing he'll say to him. * NightmareFuel: Furudate used to do horror manga. Naturally, ''Haikyuu!!'' is not immune to such horrifyingly drawn scenes.
** Kageyama's terrifying face after Hinata hits him in the head with a failed serve. Hinata himself says it's his scariest memory.
** Hinata's smile when he's getting overly hyped up in his matches (such as [[spoiler:the match against Nekoma]]) often crosses into creeper territory.
** The look in their eyes that quite a few characters get when they reach peak intensity comes off as chilling enough to startle several players who bear direct witness. The biggest example is Hinata's [[https://wallpaperaccess.com/full/2009625.png absolutely CHILLING expression]], which was sent to and ''able to'' leave [[TheStoic Ushijima himself]] taken aback!

AST is now trivia and requires the creator's confirmation. I don't think any of these examples fit other similar tropes like Salvaged Story, either. Launcher Of A Thousand Ships is when the one character is shipped with many characters, it's not a general statement about everyone being shippable.

* AuthorsSavingThrow:
** [[spoiler:The third years' graduation being given few panels and little fanfare]] in Chapter 369 was met with ire from fans who were looking forward to the moment and thought the characters in question deserved more. In the official volume release, [[spoiler:extra pages were added where Daichi reminisces over his last three years of high school volleyball and tells Kageyama and Hinata he's looking forward to their progress, which at least gives the graduation a little more emotional impact.]]
** Sakusa being such a mysterious player [[spoiler:to the point that he and Itachiyama are never shown playing during Nationals]] was seen as a let-down for fans interested in him and his reputation. After [[spoiler:the TimeSkip, he's made a pro-player of the MSBY Black Jackals (the team that is also home to Bokuto, Atsumu and eventually Hinata), thus giving him another chance to shine in a match and reveal his backstory]]. This also [[spoiler:sheds more light on Itachiyama, notably giving the captain some proper characterisation and a happier send-off than his tearful injury-induced exit out of Nationals]].

** Akaashi began as a surprisingly popular character, debuting at 14th place in the second character poll despite only having appeared at the Tokyo Camp arc at the time as the supportive deadpan teammate of Bokuto (who played a bigger role in the arc for Tsukishima's character development yet placed 18th).
** Sakusa is rather popular considering relatively short appearance in the Nationals arc. [[spoiler:Although he makes a comeback post-Timeskip as a more present character, he's still less developed than his teammates and his opponents.]]

** As the series has progressed, so have the {{Crack Pairing}}s. There are so many interesting, dynamic characters now that just about ''every single character'' can become a magnet for ships. For example, other than Hinata, Kageyama's ships include Sugawara, Oikawa, Iwaizumi, Tsukishima, Yamaguchi, and Yachi. The non-players and girls are not immune either, as Yachi's ships include Shimizu, Hinata, Yamaguchi, Kageyama, Tsukishima, Asahi, Kenma, Tanaka, Nishinoya, and Lev. Even couples like [[KissingCousins Sakusa x Komori]] or [[{{Twincest}} Atsumu x Osamu]] have their own collections of fanworks. It's pretty much Everyone x Everyone at this point.

* SelfFanservice: In canon, Oikawa is the only guy noted to be particularly attractive. Fans tend to pretty up other characters such as Sugawara, Kuroo, Kenma, and ''especially'' Akaashi, who is often portrayed as stunningly handsome and the object of Oikawa's envy in fan works.

** Kiryuu and Sakusa are hyped as the other top high school aces in Japan alongside Ushijima, with Sakusa's team Itachiyama in particular considered the biggest threat. Western is not the same as English; other western languages handle these translations differently.

* GoodBadTranslation: It's technically correct to translate the Japanese ''waseigo'' volleyball terms to their Western equivalents, such as feint -> dink, receive -> dig/bump, one touch -> deflected etc. Many fans (especially those who don't already follow real-life volleyball) nevertheless become accustomed to hearing the original Japanese terms in the anime and end up preferring the literal translations.

I don't think it can be called a fandom rivalry if it's just one side complaining/showing vitriol towards the other.

* FandomRivalry: Many long-time volleyball fans are not fond of the Haikyuu fangirls and fanboys raiding literally every single possible volleyball video. Nations League? Expect Haikyuu comments. CEV Champions League clips (a ''European'' competition followed by few Americans, where most of the diehard Haikyuu fanbase is located)? Haikyuu. Olympic volleyball? ''Haikyuu''. The invasion eventually culminated in pissed off volleyball fans starting to make hate videos directed straight at the fandom for their immaturity, shortsitedness (i.e. they did not come to appreciate volleyball) and overall disrespectfulness.
