* FridgeLogic: Futurians needed to bring 1992 era humans along in their mission to 1944... why exactly? They do everything themselves anyway and they already know from that book where they can find Godzillasaurus.

* TearJerker: Shindo's final moments with Godzilla. After going out of his way to charge Godzilla with nuclear missiles (despite Godzilla going off-radar, unaware he still exists), he still sees him as his savior in World War II, giving a tearful salute. And when Godzilla rampages, he and Godzilla look at each other, with the big guy recogizing him. Shindo then accepts his fate, allowing his "suicide by Godzilla".

* UnfortunateImplications: Never mind the Godzillasaurus scene, two jerks who happen to have a very America and Russian-esque name have zero redeeming qualities want to stop Japan from being on top of the world. On the other hand in the future there is a non-Japanese character that at first refuses aiding the past Japan but relents at Emi's pleading.
** The guy that relents mentions that Japan was corrupt and didn't care about nuclear waste, so one can take it that the world of the future wasn't pleasant.

** The new Sony Blu-Ray credits bare a typo, misspelling SPFX director Koichi Kawakita as "Koipchi Kawakita".

* SpecialEffectsFailure: Ironically, this film won for special effects. The SFX failure in question is when Emi Kano is using her jetpack.

* TheyJustDidntCare: From this point on, Toho's English export versions simply slapped a bland English optical over the Japanese title. In the past, effort was made to make the English title cards a respectful match for their Japanese counterparts. Redundancies run amok, such as "TOKYO, 1992" accompanying "1992 A.D." The credits also mistranslate Katsuhiko Sasaki's name as "Masahiko Sasaki".

* CompleteMonster: King Ghidorah, as ever. The tables turn when Godzilla [[spoiler: after defeating King Ghidorah]], demolishes Sapporo and attacks Tokyo.

** The English version contains one of the most bizarre statements ever. After seeing Godzilla kill King Ghidorah, some of the characters watching the battle notice Godzilla is starting to walk towards the city. In response one of the characters shouts "would you look at the size of that thing, its not going to be friendly". This suggests that he believes that if something is large in size, it's instantly evil. He's right about Godzilla not being friendly but still such a nonsensical statement is strange.
