** Several people were upset that Motoko's dating a guy instead of being bisexual.
*** Which is kinda odd, because being bisexual explicitly means being active ''on both'' sides of the fence, including ([[HetIsEw gasp!]]) heterosexual relationships. Unless those offended interpreted the term "bisexual" as "lesbian, [[{{Hypocrite}} but without saying so]]", of course.

** The story itself where some viewers complained that ''Arise'' doesn't tackle the themes (along with the TechnoBabble and [[ContemplateOurNavels philosophical discussions]] which is a staple to the franchise) that the franchise has been dealing with and it has become an ordinary cop drama. Others cited that the occasional TechnoBabble is notoriously pretentious which the second ''GhostInTheShell'' film suffered from.
** Generally, one camp considers ''Arise'' as an inferior adaptation to the GITS franchise. Another camp finds it that they don't mind the flaws and enjoy it because it captures the essence of the franchise without the pretentious dialogue that plagued the earlier adaptations. The third camp sees it as SoOkayItsAverage and not really memorable than the other adaptations.

few different camps of opinion. One camp considers ''Arise'' as an inferior adaptation to of the GITS franchise. This is largely due to lacking the focus on philosophy and existentialism that's been there from the beginning as an important part of the franchise. Another camp finds it that they don't mind the flaws and enjoy it because it captures the essence of the franchise without despite lacking the philosophical content, which they see as pretentious dialogue that plagued the earlier adaptations. (particularly in Innocence). The third camp sees it as SoOkayItsAverage and not really as memorable than the as other adaptations.

** Some viewers can't help but find Motoko's facial expressions very hilarious and cringe-worthy. Of course, they're probably used to SAC!Motoko's character design.

*** There's also a lot of pretty blatant BelligerentSexualTension between Kusanagi and Kurutsu, but this still doesn't stop the detractors.

* ToughActToFollow: The music itself done by Cornelius, who also did ''Appleseed: Ex Machina'' soundtrack. While soundtracks of the Oshii movies and ''Stand Alone Complex'' series are done by renowned composers, Kenji Kawaii and Music/YokoKanno, respectively, the ''Arise'' soundtrack didn't really live it up.

** Actually, JGSDF's Western Army Infantry Regiment has what is essentially a Marine regiment right now, but they're technically ''Rangers''. Which, [[FridgeBrilliance to think of]], kinda meshes really neat with Batou being an ex-Navy officer in ''Arise'', while keeping his canonical Ranger qualification.
