* JumpingTheShark: Ooooh boy. As of writing, the current story arc- starting around the end of June 2015- involves the young versions of characters from Funky Winkerbean jumping into a "time pool" found in "Crazy" Harry Klinghorn's locker, and travelling to 2015, where they meet their future selves at a school reunion. This is the same strip that tackled the issue of ''breast cancer'' not even a decade ago.

* MoralEventHorizon: Les crossed this in the eyes of many readers during the time travel storyline, for not even trying to warn Lisa about her preventable death. Les the younger makes it even worse by finding his older self's book about her death on a memorial table, reading at least some of it, and then deliberately keeping Lisa from seeing it and immediately hustling to get everyone back to their own time so he can forget about it.

* DudeNotFunny: Susan and Les ''[[http://joshreads.com/?p=6659 joking about her suicide attempt]]'' as she invites him to dinner. As adults. And as colleagues. Oh, {{Squick}} doesn't even begin to ''describe'' the wrong.

* HarsherInHindsight: A RunningGag in the original version had the hall monitor armed ''with a machine gun''. Nowadays, given the very real debate over arming teachers in response to school shootings, this [[DudeNotFunny really isn't funny in the least.]] Though Hall Monitor Les said at one point the "machine gun" actually, when the trigger was pulled, played the school fight song.

Added DiffLines:

* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: Les is supposed to be talented and morally pure, and his grief over Lisa is supposed to be touching. Readers find him smug, out-of-touch, and hypocritical, and his sadness over Lisa to be [[{{Wangst}} an obsession that he really should have gotten over after more than a decade.]]

* DarknessInducedAudienceApathyDarknessInducedAudienceApathy: It's a little hard to care about these people, either from the sheer number of bad things or how much it gets hammered in your face.

* SnarkBait: The "Lisa Dies" plotline, as well as drawing the attention of TheComicsCurmudgeon, also inspired a now-inactive Funky-centric snarking blog, Stuck Funky, which itself spawned [[http://sonofstuckfunky.com/ Son of Stuck Funky]], which continues the previous blog's work. Tom Batiuk got both blogs suspended from Wordpress via a cease and desist, but the sequel blog immediately grabbed another domain and started up again.
