* TheUntwist: [[spoiler:It is pretty obvious that Atlas is the fake Ashleigh and Herschel is the real Ashleigh. It's noticeable when Atlas has a scar that looks like he is stealing a face and Herschel having no facial skin under his mask]].

* BackForTheFinale: In a Meta sense, Music/LArcEnCiel. This is the band's return to the franchise for the first time since ''Conqueror of Shamballa'' in 2005. Since ''Milos'' is as of now the final FMA anime adaptation (with the franchise shifting to live-action adaptations from hereon out), it's fitting they return.

* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: The movie's ending theme, ''Good Luck My Way'' by Music/LArcEnCiel.
** Taro Iwashiro's score is another worthy orchestral addition to the franchise's discography and easily stands equal alongside Michiru Ōshima and Akira Senju's scores.

* WhatDoYouMeanItsNotPolitical: People from Milos trying to reach Table City are shot down, and the whole issue of deporting illegal immigrants and the fact that most people from Milos (at least the ones whom name we know) are named with [[PhenotypeStereotype Mexican-sounding]] names, like Carlos, Santos, Julia, Miranda, Raúl, Anita, Pedro and Gonzalez. Not to mention the flashback scenes of the people of Table City being conquered by one people, then another, both times being conscripted into the defender's army to try and stop them.

* CompleteMonster:[[spoiler: [[AxCrazy Atlas]] is a [[AmbitionIsEvil power-hungry]] Lieutenant in the Cretan military assigned to guarding the Crichton alchemist family. Murdering the parents for their research on the Sanguine Star, Atlas also [[FaceStealer skins the face]] of their older son Ashleigh to take on his identity. Years later, as "[[TheHeavy Melvin Voyager]]", Atlas breaks out of prison using an explosion to find Ashleigh's sister Julia, posing as her brother to manipulate her and her group, the Black Bats, into helping him create the Star. Using the transmutation circle around Table City, Atlas [[ManipulativeBastard tricks the Bats]] into committing terrorist attacks, thinking they are fighting for their country Milos, before betraying them, killing their leader--his own co-conspirator--and countless Amestrian soldiers to create the Star with their deaths.]]

* MagnificentBastard: "[[ColonelBadass Colonel Herschel]]", born Ashleigh Chrighton, was the son of an alchemist couple who were forced out of their homeland of Milos by bigots and later killed while Ashleigh himself was mutilated by the monstrous Lieutenant Atlas. He thus sought the gate of truth for two goals: vengeance on his whole country for their rejection of his family; and to [[WellIntentionedExtremist construct a better world]]. Building a fake life as Herschel, he rose through the ranks of the Cretan military and set up his plan for years. Eventually hijacking Atlas' scheme, Ashleigh plays him into creating the Sanguine Star before getting revenge on the man after making it clear [[OutGambitted he used him]]. After he is defeated but saved by his sister Ashleigh peacefully departs to atone for his actions.

This was done so that Atlas could easily manipulate the rebel group, Bats, into making a transmutation circle for him by promising Creta enough power to rival other nations. Ashleigh, in turn, ended up becoming a vengeful KnightTemplar, seeking revenge for Milos after losing his faith for its people. After showing his true colors, Atlas murders Bats' leader, Miranda, so that he can use her blood to activate the circle. He then proceeds to [[ChronicBackstabbingDisorder murder his co-conspirator]], Raul, as well when it turns out there is not enough sacrificial blood. After succeeding in activating the circle, Atlas sacrifices dozens of Amestrian soldiers by feeding them to Milos's machinery to create a PhilosophersStone for himself]].
