* ItsTheSameSoItSucks:
** The StatusQuoIsGod trope kicking in every time the Fairy Tail guild-master reverts back to Makarov gets this reaction from fans. In total, it's happened three times over the course of the series. It started off as a funny joke when it was done for Macao and Gildarts, but by the time it was done for Erza, [[InternetBackdraft the gimmick became overused]]. At this point, people felt that either Makarov overstayed his welcome, or would have preferred to finally see a significant change happen to the guild. [[spoiler:This one has died down with Makarov [[HeroicSacrifice finally sacrificing himself to bring down most of the remaining soldiers in Alvarez's army]], though time will tell exactly what happens next]].

** Gray's attempt to sacrifice himself by [[spoiler:trying to freeze Zeref with Iced Shell, only to have his effort stopped by the arrival of Natsu]], might as well have been the Deliora arc on repeat. Apart from the Deliora ArcVillain being Lyon instead of Zeref, everything about the two events remained the same. The second time around however, people were [[LikeYouWouldReallyDoIt less worried that something may actually happen to Gray]] given several previous near-death experiences he and several other characters was subjected to during the ''Alvarez Empire'' arc.

Added DiffLines:

** Chapter 522. I dare you to find someone who believed [[spoiler: Gray's [[HeroicSacrifice use of the iced shell]] on Zeref]] wouldn't have been interrupted.

** Hardly anyone was surprised that Gray's trump card against Zeref turned out to be his [[spoiler:Iced Shell]] spell. Even fewer were surprised that he [[spoiler:[[LikeYouWouldReallyDoIt was not allowed to go through with it.]]

** In chapter 519, [[spoiler: Erza has most of her bones broken, including an arm, but has enough strength to destroy a giant meteor, something even Irene herself states should have been impossible in her condition. Then Wendy somehow learned to enchant Dragon-Slayer Magic into her sword, which allowed her to injure Irene. While Dragon Slayer Magic ''was'' originally created by enchanting Dragon Magic into humans, and the entire purpose of Enchanting as shown by Irene is to place magical power into objects, it's a little convenient that Wendy would figure out how to enchant her own power into a weapon so quickly after learning about it, even if it was presumably well within her capabilities to do]]. The only thing that softens this duo is the fact they don't really solve the final climax of the fight: [[spoiler:that would be Irene [[DrivenToSuicide throwing it herself]] after realizing she couldn't kill Erza anymore now than she could when she was a baby and presumably not wanting to live her life as a monster anymore with no hope of becoming human.]]

** Natus [[spoiler:being an Etherious, more specifically Zeref's most powerful creation E.N.D.]], laid the foundation for several promising plotlines that ended antclimatically. [[spoiler:Grey's personal grudge against E.N.D. led to a fight with Natsu, but Erza's intervention prevented that from being resolved one way or the other. Natsu dying from the Demon Seed and Dragon Seed inside his body forces him to decide which he wants to be, but Natsu just deciding to be "human" destroys both seeds and wastes all the drama the plotline gave it]].
