* FunnyAneurysmMoment: In the series finale, Chris' mother mocks Chris for trying to justify going for a GED by pointing out Bill Cosby got a GED because Bill Cosby was a comedian. In recent years, it's a pretty good thing she didn't want Chris to be like Bill Cosby.

* CrowningMomentofAwesome: For example, Greg is the kind of {{Cowardly Lion}} who you'd ''never'' meet in the bad part of Bed-Stuy. But, Greg had shown up to meet Chris and dissuaded Chris from going along with the plan of being a lookout. Had it not been for Greg's dissuasion and concern, Chris would have likely gone along with the plan of the cool kids and gotten into trouble. This is one of the few instances in which Greg actually helped Chris get out of a serious situation.

** Another example is when Julius reveals to Rochelle the reason for having a credit card... and the reason (buying Rochelle's ring) promptly does something that Julius has never been able to do during their time together: shut her up.

** Rochelle's snobbery, short temper, immaturity, and such can become incredibly grating at times. Not to mention it makes it pretty clear where Tonya learns her behavior from.

** When Julius gives Rochelle a classy shut up when he revealed that he made a credit card so he could buy their wedding rings. May count as a CrowningMomentOfAwesome.
* TheWoobie: Chris, of course. He feels like he is in Drew's shadow all the time, his sister is a brat, and he always gets picked on all the time.

* DudeNotFunny: In the episode "Everybody Hates Bed-Stuy", adult Chris explains that he wasn't actually the first black kid at Corleone Jr. High, just the first one to make it through the door. Cue cutaway scene, set in 1968, in which a black kid gets off the bus and is shot on sight. Possibly justified in that most of the cutaway scenes happen in Chris's imagination, but it's understandable why some would not find this funny at all.
** An InUniverse example happens when Chris starts telling jokes to his schoolmates using curse words. The kids don't laugh, and condemn him for telling them curse words instead.
