To wit, their mother died giving birth, their father and the doctor who delivered them got killed shortly afterwards, a sheriff attempted to drive them to the orphanage only to die himself, the sisters spent their first few years living in a crowded chicken coop before being taken in by an orphanage that was secretly a child brothel, joining a circus troupe by their adolescent years and having to live in a run-down apartment by the time they're legally adults.

* InternetBackdraft: On several levels. Some people (Music/CourtneyLove among them) didn't understand the twins weren't real. Some people didn't like the fact that disabled characters were portrayed as being socially awkward, or as infantile (which, in the twins' backstory, is the result of being abused and shunned for 20 years). And some people didn't like the fact that Amanda and Jason played victims of sexual abuse, though Amanda herself is a rape survivor, which lends a different angle to it. It also drew a lot of accusations of 'crip drag'.
