** "Family Tree" initially seems to be full of typical, if mind-altering, GenderBender fun. Then [[LovableAlphaBitch Diana]] come back to grab a slice of pizza. Things quickly descend into horror fuel as we watch her slowly realize something's wrong. And by something wrong, we mean the terror in eyes as she tries to get her sister to remember that no, everyone is not a girl and please stop worshipping her and calling her "lord". Really, this is possibly the comic's darkest, most terrifying arc yet. The whole thing reads like a Lovecraftian SurvivalHorror. [[spoiler:Then [[EldritchAbomination Tengu]] [[FromBadToWorse shows up]].]] For extra [[LossOfIdentity horror]]: [[spoiler: Regardless of whatever gender the guests originally were, they're all gradually turning into clones of Nanase. Tengu is ''thorough'' in his attempt at identity murder]].

* OlderThanTheyThink: Some fans are uncomfortable with how close Elliot and Ashley are on the first date, up to sharing a dressing room in the mall and then making out. Thing is, this isn't all that different from when Elliot was dating Nanase way back when the comic started, the two having a very physical relationship and even having a regular tradition of making out after sparing matches. Many fans may have just forgotten this due to the fact soon after Elliot started dating Sarah, with the two having a generally non-sexual relationship (due to them realizing afterwards they shared a much more platonic/brother-sister kind of love as opposed to a romantic attraction) and the fact that Elliot is later characterized as being uncomfortable fantasizing about women. His relationship with Ashley is more of a CharacterCheck to how he originally was than an OutOfCharacterMoment.

* BaseBreakingCharacter: Ashley. Some like her for being a good match for Elliot and a generally decent person, including towards her own seeming romantic rival. Others feel Dan is trying a little too hard to make her TheWoobie. This only got worse on Elliot and Ashley's first date, where the two seems a little ''too'' into each other very quickly, with some fans already accusing Dan of falling prey to the two being StrangledByTheRedString. There's also the fact that she seems a little too accepting of all the weirdness thrust upon her and far too respectful of everyone's privacy, not wanting to probe for information even when pressed for her desire to know more. Once it's revealed that she has such IncorruptiblePurePureness that not even Pandora can empower her in spite of her fetish for BalefulPolymorph, and it seems Ashley may be starting to hit PuritySue territories.

** Rhoda and Catalina. It isn't so much whether people find them likable or interesting, but whether or not they deserve the attention they have been receiving in the comic. Some don't mind the idea of them being upgraded to the main cast, while others think the main cast is already worn a bit thin and some characters (in particular, Justin) aren't getting the screentime they deserve. It doesn't help that they are now the second couple (after Elliot and Ashley) to get an arc and preempt Justin's date with Luke.

* SnarkBait: There are a lot of people who seemingly read the comic in order to bash on the creator suffering from TheChrisCarterEffect and a massive KudzuPlot, as well as mock the UsefulNotes/FurryFandom and other FetishFuel that underpins a lot of what happens to the characters. Just read the [[http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/reviews.php?target_group=Webcomic&target_title=ElGoonishShive reviews]] if you you fail to believe.

** To describe how bad he is? Grace has a large, angsty thing...about how she didn't kill him FAST enough. Elliot, specifically imagines killing Damien when someone says he'd let his worst enemy live.

* MarySue:
** Grace most often gets accused of this as her adorable cuteness and prettiness and all around goodness is a constant thing in comics she appears in. She's so cute that she can get characters to do things they might not want to do by giving puppy dog eyes and anyone who's mean to her is seen as being irredeemably mean or evil. Her faults are things like clumsiness or naivete or hyperactivity that serve only to make her cuter and more lovable and she's one of the most powerful characters in the series. Her only actual character flaw, BlackAndWhiteInsanity, has yet to actually get her into any trouble, since she's always pitted against against [[CompleteMonster real monsters]], summons who can't be killed, or there's someone present who can easily keep her from attacking people unnecessarily ([[http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=1110 even if that person is the one she's threatening]]). Furthermore she puts almost everyone in the "white" category and can easily be reasoned with, so [[InformedFlaw the only way to tell this trope is present]] is through [[ShowDontTell some of her conversations]]. On top of it Dan has "jokingly" said before that hating Grace makes you evil. All of these have earned her the derisive name of [[FanNickname Gracie Sue]] among a segment of the fandom.
** [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2012-07-06 This]] comic lampshades Nanase's status as one as well.

* PuritySue: Ashley seems to have been created to be an absolutely perfect fit for the comic; she is naturally [[GenkiGirl energetic]] and [[TheCutie sweet]], to the point even Nanase thinks she's suspiciously [[http://www.egscomics.com/comics/1463011946-2016-05-11c167_reunion.png "too nice"]]. She is instantly very accepting of all the weirdness she's introduced to, including transformations (which she happens to have a fetish for), magical creatures and immortals, and the casual presence of magic in the main cast. She is super respectful of everyone's privacy, to the point she refuses to ask questions or let anyone tell her about things if they feel it would betray a trust, despite admitting she would love to know about it (Elliot commenting that makes him want to tell her everything even ''more''). Her only real flaws seem to be she's a bit naive and she's quirky, both of which only seem to make her more adorable. And even Pandora is incapable of empowering her despite Ashley's fascination and borderline fetish for transformations due to her literal IncorruptiblePurePureness[[note]]The only time an immortal has ever been incapable of empowering someone before in the comic was when Jerry failed to give a spell to Sarah, and ''that'' was due to the fact Sarah literally talked herself out of it. Ashley is just unconsciously so pure-hearted Pandora has no ability to manipulate her very powerful interest for transformation magic[[/note]]. Even the author has described her alignment as being "absurdly good".

** Grace has gained her share of haters ever since the birthday party, where her MarySue tendencies were kicked into high gear.
