* TheyJustDidntCare: The accents. Goodness, the accents.
** Molly Ringwald seems to have donned an accent akin to Creator/JeanClaudeVanDamme. She was a known Francophile, and thought it could add some verisimilitude to her performance.

* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: The ghost of Kaiser Vilhelm rising from the dead, only to sing his musical number ("I Used To Be Ze Bad Guy"), before playing with Hitler's moustache and returning to the dead.
** Rumours have suggested the above scene was contextualised in a CutSong where Hitler compared his current reign to what it might have been like if the Kaiser had still been in charge (the general gist being that Hitler was a preferable alternative). It was apparently storyboarded but cut for time (not the UnfortunateImplications)

* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: BigLippedAlligatorMoment:
** When Miep tries to cheer up Anne when her birthday turned out to be very disappointing, she leads into a big band musical number with a DisneyAcidSequence going on in the background. The whole thing is loud and bombastic to make Anne happy and flies directly into the face of the fact that at the start of the movie, Anne's father clearly stated that they had to try to be as quiet as possible.

* TheProblemWithLicensedGames: The NES game is seen as one of the worst licensed games ever made, and is one of the worst games ever made by Nintendo - indeed, Shigeru Miyamoto himself was head of the team that made it, saying that he wanted to personally "show the world my thoughts on that period in time". Seanbaby, in particular, said "after playing through the game, I can without qualification say that actually going through The Holocaust would be preferable".

* UnfortunateImplications: Rivals the infamous Titanic adaptations in terms of this, and for more-or-less the same reasons.

** Creator/ChristopherLee as the voice of Adolf Hitler. Admittedly, it's just one scene where we never see his face or hear his name, but Olga does address him as "Führer", so it's presumably him.

** NoProblemWithLicensedGames: The UsefulNotes/SegaMasterSystem version, done by Creator/Sega and Rare The Stamper Brothers, was viewed as one of the best games for the system despite its Brazil-only release. The MSX version, a RealTimeStrategy done by a one-off LJN[=/=]Titus merger, became the gold standard to which all video games were held for nearly a decade.

** Some people have claimed that watching the movie while listening to the LeonardCohen album The Future results in surprising (and creepy) sync-ups between the music and what's on the screen. If this is the case then it is purely unintentional.

* ColbertBump: Because of Disney's humiliation over the film, a lot of people hadn't heard of it until WebVideo/TheNostalgiaChick showed the poster in a review.

* CrowningMusicOfAwesome: "Sweet Sweet Dream" by Music/LuciferLusciousViolenoue, as the AlternativeForeignThemeSong in Japan. Aside the fact that it was written by a goth[=/=]VisualKei artist, the song sets the mood really well in terms of the grittiness that the film had going on. Its tune will haunt your dreams, ironically enough.The song itself was pretty much buried over a decade due to the reception of the film and the song was thought to be LostForever until it was released in an album and PV by the year 2000.

* AuthorsSavingThrow: Considering all accusations of antisemitism towards Walt Disney and the Disney company, this movie could have been this. Sadly, it got Cannon Banned and Disney treats it like it never existed, which is why we still get jokes about Disney's (possible) antisemitism.

* DudeNotFunny: Or at least "Dude, not appropriate," a fairly common reaction to much of the movie.
** It was defying this that caused WebVideo/TheNostalgiaCritic to hastily announce, after Chick brought it back to infamy, that it would be his top 12th film he will never review, on the mere chance that a joke he would make would cross the line.
--->"Even Douchey would have every right to troll me then."
