* FridgeLogic: The townspeople, and thus Dobbs, make little effort if any to find out if the people they killed told anyone they were going to be in Potter's Bluff. This would have left a trial of people who could testify the victims were last seen in the town, drawing the authorities' attention to Dobbs.

* AlternateCharacterInterpretation: Although Dobbs claims he uses science or witchcraft, he appears to be messing with Dan. Presumably Dobbs uses witchcraft to animate the bodies, given Janet's book on witchcraft. Also, Dan finds George's heart in his grave, when earlier at the school Janet said that as part of a voodoo ritual, the zombie's heart is hidden.

* CompleteMonster: Eccentric mortician William C. Dobbs takes passion for his craft to a disturbing new level. Dobbs is the source of all the strange happenings in the little town of Potter's Bluff, experimenting in ways to Necromancer raise the dead as servile husks that will obey him utterly. Every person in Potter's Bluff is secretly one of Dobbs' reanimated victims, as Dobbs uses them to lure in visitors and have them murdered so Dobbs can perform his black magic upon them, specifically ordering all manners of CruelAndUnusualDeath to give Dobbs the challenge of totally reconstructing their mutilated bodies. Dobbs even keeps recordings of his killings—-from stabbings, to burning, to having their skulls smashed in-—as souvenirs, using them to break the mind of the protagonist Dan with the revelation .

* SugarWiki/VisualEffectsOfAwesome: Ranging from a fully highly realistic burned face to a full body cast, Stan Winston was just perfect. In the behind the scenes Blu-Ray he stated he had such a love for horror and appreciated what it has done for his job. It really shows when everything is just amazing.

This isn't a view commonly expressed about the film.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: The twist ending and the interesting implications it raised makes one all the more annoyed at the movie's clunky and ham-fisted execution.
