* SeinfeldIsUnfunny: The Darkstalkers series often comes across as "just another 90s fighting game" to those who first experience it now, likely because so many of the new things it brought to the table such as [[{{Combos}} chain combos]], guard cancels, air blocking, ES specials, [[AwesomeArt improved]] [[DerangedAnimation animation]], and a cast full of something other than the same old martial arts archetypes have now been copied by so many other fighters (including its own predecessor, StreetFighter.)

So they'll never pick up on all of the hints we've been giving them. [[YankTheDogsChain Sadly]], even despite Niitsuma's preference for him, Talbain STILL didn't make the cut for ''[[UpdatedRerelease Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3]]'' (aside from a skin for [[VideoGame/{{Okami}} Amaterasu]], which admittedly isn't much, but...)

* DracoInLeatherPants: Lilith is very well liked despite being a villain in the series. Mostly because she has a sympathetic backstory.

** [[TheBadGuyWins Jedah's ending]]. The villain successfully massacres all life throughout the universe and his specially designed fetus awakens. We hear [[TheVoiceOfLegion a baby's cry]] as the [[TheFourthWallWillNotProtectYou fetus looks straight at the screen]].

** Queen Bee's ending involves her taking over the world with an army of insects.

* TooCoolToLive: [[spoiler: Victor]] ends up KilledOffForReal after performing a HeroicSacrifice.

* UnintentionallySympathetic: Lilith gained a lot of fans who felt sorry for her, despite being TheDragon to Jedah.
* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: Dimitri is not exactly the most sympathetic character, but he was originally meant to be one of the ''heroes''.

** Lilith. Just take a look at her backstory. Played straight in her ending (Morrigan's ending, despite Lilith losing, offers a more satisfactory conclusion [[spoiler:as Morrigan welcomes Lilith back into her body, resulting in a win-win situation for both of them: Morrigan's power gets exponentially multiplied (possibly reaching full level), and Lilith's sense of existence is assured]]).

** BB Hood's ending. We see that a family of wolves are watching the news about a psychotic murderer on a violent rampage, but the family dismisses it as nothing. Then, we cut to outside their home, where BB Hood is standing, brandishing her knife, while [[ParanoiaFuel watching them through the windows]].

** Pyron's ending. Which involves bringing Hell on Earth and the death of all humanity.

* DamselScrappy: Harry. He needs the heroic characters to rescue him ''all the time''. He's not exactly redeemed by [[FlatCharacter his lack of character]] and [[NiceJobBreakingItHero accidentally endangering the heroes]] every time.

* DamselScrappy: Harry. He needs the heroic characters to rescue him ''all the time''. He's not exactly redeemed by [[FlatCharacter his lack of character]] and [[NiceJobBreakingItHero accidentally endangering the heroes]] every time.

to:

* ExecutiveMeddling: In short, ''all'' the characters were pretty much InNameOnly caricatures of themselves. Also, the franchise suffered ''heavy'' {{Disneyfication}}.

* HarsherInHindsight: Several of the show's staff commented how they felt like this show was going to be the next best thing like ''Film/{{Ghostbusters}}''. The show proved very unpopular, didn't last [[ThirteenIsUnlucky 13 episodes]], and ended up [[FranchiseKiller seriously harming the franchise's popularity]].

* MemeticLoser: Pyron. His whole plan to conquer Earth ''is'' motivated out of gaining respect from his mother.
* MemeticMolester: Morrigan. The most evident scene is when she abducts [[KidHero Harry]] and tucks him into bed after caressing him.

* PavumOpus: This cartoon is often debated as the ''worst'' cartoon based off a videogame in history next to ''WesternAnimation/StreetFighter'' and ''WesternAnimation/MortalKombatDefendersOfTheRealm''.

* SoBadItsHorrible: Fans, critics, and even people who just watched the show all commented how this was the worst cartoon based off of a videogame. ''Games Radar'' even stated that this cartoon was terrible as an adaptation ''and'' as a stand alone story.

** Lord Raptor's ending after he takes down Pyron. As reward for defeating the EvilOverlord, Raptor is given Pyron's power. We then see an unholy formation as Raptor fuses Pyron's corpse to him in order to become a stronger demon. It ends with Raptor promising to take down his former master after he's down killing all humans.

* BadassDecay: Several of the darkstalkers were already changed into [[AdaptationalWimp weaker characters]] for the series, but every character would lose once an episode.
* DesignatedHero: Harry. Although he's not outright villainous, he's allegedly TheChosenOne who'll save the world from Pyron and bring peace between humans and darkstalkers. However, he spends ''all'' of his screen time [[BrattyHalfPint complaining]] and [[DamselScrappy needing rescue from the heroes]] while [[NiceJobBreakingItHero accidentally getting them into trouble]].

* UncannyValley: Harry looks a bit...unnatural.

** B.B. Hood/Bulleta: Similar to Lord Raptor above, she has garnered a sizable fanbase (again, at least in the West). Most of this stems from the take that she's an FauxAffablyEvil [[BitchInSheepsClothing take]] on Literature/LittleRedRidingHood [[TokenHuman who seems completely out of place in this series]] [[BadassNormal and yet manages]] [[LittleMissBadass to hold her own]]. Along with Felicia and Anakaris, she did manage to join Morrigan in the ''VideoGame/MarvelVsCapcom2'' lineup. She also was the sole series representative in ''VideoGame/CannonSpike'' and will be making an appearance in ''Project X Zone 2'' as an enemy unit after what has been essentially a ''fifteen'' year-long absence.

* AssPull: Felicia becoming a nun. It was so out of nowhere and not foreshadowed at all. Many fans were obviously upset because this made a dent on her {{fanservice}}, but it also made her give up on her dreams of becoming a famous superstar singer like she wanted. Not helped that one of her own win quotes states that she never gives up on her dreams.

** Felicia. Though not to the level of Morrigan, she is very popular. Of all the cast, she's the one character most likely to appear alongside Morrigan in crossovers. [[{{MsFanservice}} Wonder why?]]

** Lei-Lei/Hsien-Ko: The jiangshi girl's innovative fighting style and overall cuteness made her a fan favorite as well, with her appearing in ''VideoGame/{{Namco x Capcom}}'', ''[[VideoGame/SuperGemFighter Pocket Fighter]]'', ''[[VideoGame/MarvelVsCapcom3 Marvel vs. Capcom 3]]'' and ''VideoGame/ProjectXZone''. She even [[AscendedExtra gets a very large role in the anime]], in which she is the secondary protagonist along with her sister.
** Lord Raptor/Zabel Zarock: his rock star nature and hilarious, [[LargeHam hammy]] yet brutal quotes and fighting style have made him very popular amongst Western fans, many who want to see him in ''Marvel vs. Capcom 3'' as DLC. He made it into ''Project X Zone'' as one of the villains.

** Jedah: Another really popular character to Western fans due to the fact that he's [[DarkMessiah sort of an interesting take on]] [[{{Satan}} the devil]]. He's sexy, classy, [[AntiVillain semi-evil]], has the most bloody and brutal specials of everyone in the cast, and has an unforgettable maniacal laugh courtesy of the [[Creator/IsshinChiba voice]] of [[Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventure Dio Brando]]. One of the major villains of ''Project X Zone''.
** Demitri: Somewhat more popular in Japan than the West, but still notable for being one of the few truly badass vampires in the age of ''Literature/{{Twilight}}''. [[GenderBender Midnight Bliss]] helps. Made it into ''Capcom Fighting Evolution'' and as a playable character in ''Project X Zone'', teamed with [[VideoGame/DevilMayCry Dante]] of all people.

** Felicia and Jon Talbain. Almost every media adaptation has paired them up, or at least had them run into each other on a regular basis. Capcom does a suspicious amount of [[ShipTease Ship Teasing]] with these two. Although there's nothing to suggest it in-game, in every ''Darkstalkers'' property ''outside'' of the games to which Capcom has given their stamp of approval, from the US cartoon series and OAV to the UDON comics, Jon and Felicia always share a bond of one variety or another; they're either friends, comrades in battle, traveling companions, or even living together. A manga from 1996 actually has the two ''sleeping together in the same bed''.

** You'd be surprised at how many times the pairing of [[LesYay Morrigan/Felicia]] pops up among the fandom. Morrigan's pet names for Felicia (apparently, Morrigan still calls Felicia "kitten" according to ''VideoGame/CrossEdge'', and in ''Marvel vs. Capcom 3'', Morrigan tags out with Felicia with the call of "Kitty!") ''do not help in the slightest''.

Not helped by the fact he was the eigth opponent(The last before Huitzil & Pyron) in the original game and thus on of the hardest.

* MemeticSexGod
** Morrigan. ''Website/HardcoreGaming101'' [[http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/darkstalkers/darkstalkers.htm put it the best:]] "If nothing else, ''Darkstalkers'' taught a generation what a succubus is." Many a man and [[EvenTheGirlsWantHer woman]] would let Morrigan take them on a pleasure cruise without a second thought. Must be that purple spandex... And as of the unveiling of ''Marvel vs. Capcom 3'', she [[CrossoverShip has been shipped with]] Comicbook/IronMan, ''himself'' a MemeticSexGod. You can only imagine how ''that'' one's gonna turn out. [[note]]Here's a hint: it'll probably be ''mind-blowing sex''.[[/note]]
** Rikuo. The western cartoon said it best: [[RunningGag He's curiously attractive for a fish man]].
** Felicia and Lilith. Lesser examples compared to Morrigan, but still.
** Hsien-Ko. She rounds out the above quartet of female examples. [[MemeticMutation As the saying goes]], "Everyone is Lord Raptor for Hsien-Ko."
