* BileFascination: Some people only see the cartoon to see how bad it is.
* BrokenBase: Literally the only thing fans argue over is if the American cartoon is SoBadItsGood or SoBadItsHorrible. Of course, some people just say [[TakeAThirdOption it's plain bad]].

* EthnicScrappy:
** Morrigan got a super thick Scottish accent that soon became the MostAnnoyingSound.
** The show's incarnation of Hsien-Ko sadly became this thanks to her exaggerated accent.

* MemeticLoser: Pyron. His whole plan to conquer Earth ''is'' motivated out of gaining respect from his mother.

to:

* MemeticLoser: HeartwarmingInHindsight: Lord Raptor's voice actor Creator/ScottMcNeil being among one of the only highlights of the series becomes this since his performance earned him a RoleReprisal in the much better anime OVA where Lord Raptor's [[EvilIsCool popularity]] [[EnsembleDarkhorse skyrocketed]] thanks to him playing the role more seriously.

Pyron. His whole plan to conquer Earth ''is'' motivated out of gaining respect from his mother.mother.
** Harry, who many of his haters classify as a FakeUltimateHero.

%%* SnarkBait* SnarkBait: If anyone asks what's the worse videogame cartoon ever made, chances are that this show will come up.

Added DiffLines:

* VanillaProtagonist: Another major reason why Harry is so despised is that he has no interesting character depth compared to the iconic videogame characters. It doesn't help that he gets too much focus.
* VideoGameMoviesSuck: Well, video game ''cartoons'' suck. This cartoon was unfortunately one of the many failed attempts to make a show based on a popular videogame. ''WebSeries/ScrewAttack'' has listed it as one of the worst cartoons ever based on a videogame simply for making it unrecognizable to the source material entirely.

** Jon Talbain. Both in-universe and OUT-universe, if you see how much misfortune Talbain used to be a normal nobleman until the night it was revealed he turned into a werewolf, everyone then treat him as an outcast even if Jon didn't have a malicious heart, only trying to control his beast impulses via TrainingFromHell. Just when he thought he has controlled the impulses fully, the adults still refuse him. Children does, but time by time, Jon still had to leave them to train lest he brutalizes them with his beast fury. Despite this, he never gave in to angst and continued to be a fearsome werewolf doing what he feels is handled by game producers. Poor Jon.right for those he cares for. And if you want to get meta, this may apply with how he's never been featured in crossovers despite fan demand, but any cameos he had made sure that his 'fearsome werewolf' feel is still intact.

Added DiffLines:

** Apparently even some American game reviewers in the 90s didn't notice several of the mechanical differences from StreetFighter, so to some extent Darkstalkers was underappreciated in its time, too.

Added DiffLines:

* SpiritualAdaptation: Since the roster includes [[Film/{{Dracula 1931}} a vampire]], [[Film/TheWolfMan1941 a werewolf]], [[Film/{{Frankenstein 1931}} a pastiche of Frankenstein's monster]], [[Film/TheMummy1932 a mummy]], and [[Film/CreatureFromTheBlackLagoon a merman]], this series can easily be considered an unofficial Franchise/UniversalHorror video game adaptation.
* SpiritualSuccessor: Since Capcom has yet to actually make another game for this series, fans have had to turn to other alternatives. Two noteworthy successors in particular are ''[[VideoGame/KillerInstinct Killer Instinct (2013)]]'' and ''VideoGame/SkullGirls'', both of which have heavily-stylized non-human characters among its roster.

* EarWorm: The [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wHq_O5FFTec opening theme]], which is an instrumental version of Trouble Man, with opening narration and the phrase "We're the Darkstalkers!" chanted a couple times in place of lyrics.

Added DiffLines:

* HeReallyCanAct: The voice acting is considered questionable at best and ridiculously narmy at worst... with one exception. While Creator/ScottMcNeil's skill as a voice actor isn't in question (especially if you've heard his various other roles), his performance as Lord Raptor is considered a highlight and one of the show's legitimately good points, to the point that he was brought back to voice the character again in the english dub of ''Anime/NightWarriorsDarkstalkersRevenge'' and is considered the fan-preferred english voice for Lord Raptor in any media the character appears in.

* MainstreamObscurity: Has a cult following over the years, but is solely known for Morrigan Aensland, the [[SexGod sexier-than-sex]] [[HornyDevils succubus]] who has [[WolverinePublicity appeared in more crossover games than her own]]. Good luck finding someone who can name any other characters besides maybe Lilith, her {{moe}} sister or Felicia, a near-nude CatGirl. Possibly Hsien-Ko as well due to her appearance in ''VideoGame/MarvelVsCapcom3''. They probably won't know anything about the gameplay either. The series is BestKnownForTheFanservice, and not much else.

* ExecutiveMeddling: In short, ''all'' the characters were pretty much InNameOnly caricatures of themselves. Also, the franchise suffered ''heavy'' {{Disneyfication}}.
* FranchiseKiller: Because of this cartoon, another ''Darkstalkers'' show would never be made again (outside of the short-lived anime) and the video game series lost a lot of popularity.

* FandomRivalry: A one-sided variant with ''Franchise/StreetFighter'', as many ''Darkstalkers'' fans are incensed that the former keeps getting more and more promotion and games, while the latter is constantly screwed over and relegated to, if anything, appearances and cameos in crossover games. To put things in perspective, here's what was said at [=SDCC=] 2013 when Capcom [[http://www.gamespot.com/articles/capcom-no-new-darkstalkers-game-planned/1100-6411888/ announced]] that no new ''Darkstalkers'' games were planned...
-->'''Matt Dalgren:''' Darkstalkers Resurrection did not perform as well as we would have liked to hope. You never know what the future may hold, [[YankTheDogsChain but Street Fighter is definitely not dead. There is nothing Darkstalkers on the immediate horizon for sure.]]
