** Everything about paid sprays.
*** The main kicker was having to pay for a feature that was free in virtually every other multiplayer-centric Valve game. While it might have been acceptable, ponying up some money to support the community content creators who made the sprays, it had absolutely no place with the next "feature":
*** Sprays were limited use. Each spray had 50 uses, and once those 50 uses were gone, the item is gone. A spray that has been applied will fade with time, and you can't even pay to refresh the charges on a spray, you have to buy a completely new one.
*** Then there's the fact that sprays were usable in competitive. Of all the exploits involving sprays, the two most common uses were using sprays to create decoys of a player, and spraying one side of a glass wall to hide yourself behind it (while still retaining full visibility).

** The "Locked Crate" mechanic where you need to purchase a key for 2.5 dollar to unlock the crate containing randomly selected weapon skins. While the skins didn't give any significant advantage over the others, it has since become a thriving commodity of trading in the Market, price based on rarity. This mechanic originated from the infamous Mann-Co crates in Videogame/TeamFortress2 and it has seep to other games like Videogame/PAYDAY2 and Videogame/KillingFloor2. Mitigated, however, that all the mentioned games has a "Market" functionality on the Steam client where one can purchase the desired weapon skins in price gauged by the community and rarity.

** Balancing of pistols in Global Offensive is often debated. Some pistols (namely the Tec-9, Five-SeveN and P250) are seen as overpowered, due to decent movement accuracy, forgiving magazines, low price and the ability to one-shot an enemy with a headshot at close to medium range (sometimes outdoing the M4s in those ranges). Some think that it's a necessary evil, as overpowered pistols make eco rounds easier to win, while others disagree and think said pistols should have lowered movement accuracy and/or damage.

* ScrappyMechanic: Bots who fill in for an absent player in competitive play in Global Offensive will almost never follow commands, even at the cost of their own lives. While this is fine for punishing players who are a bit kick-happy, it's absolutely frustrating when you're stuck with toaster A.I. because of a RageQuit or the absentee simply hasn't gotten into the game proper. And, in the latter case, when the player finally does get into the game, the bot is automatically killed. Yes, it may be frustrating to work with a stubborn, idiotic bot, but at least the bot can be a distraction while you line up your shots.

** After being nerfed, the R8 Revolver became one due to its delayed fire mechanic and near useless alt-fire. The patch that introduced the new Negev somewhat helped by reducing the length of the trigger pull, but it's still not quite as popular as the Deagle.

* LoveItOrHateIt:
** Counter-Strike Nexon: Zombies. It's liked for being a good free-to-play version of Counter-Strike, along with a somewhat amount of characters with fanservice, an ongoing Zombie Scenario storyline, and HUGE amounts of GunPorn. It also helps that it's on Steam, DLC included (with the starter pack and entire CS 1.6 content being free, of course!). Others dislike it due to being a "Pay To Win" game with BlingBlingBang premium or temporary use weapons (that either had to be crafted with tedious grinding/item crafting or buying it outright, either directly or in random packs) that also have boosted damage and stats, along with the fact that the graphics have not aged well (it is a heavily modified CS 1.6), and that they would rather forget about it. It doesn't help that it's been done to death. Hell, it also earned a 61% from UsefulNotes/Steam.
** The AWP has achieved legendary status as the very incarnation of this. Either it's a balanced one-hit-kill sniper rifle that costs much, restricts its user's movement, pays out little, and rewards thinking intelligently about your position over mindlessly rushing and practicing spray patterns, or it's a broken gun that makes the game borderline unplayable, capable of instantly killing you from across the map and only used by braindead players who can only point and click to win. It's telling that the latter opinion is often prevalent among beginning players frequenting pubs, due to their tendency to run through open killzones and corners without a second thought.
** The community map cs_insertion. It's so drastically different from everything else in the game that you either love it for being so different or you hate it for being so different. For starters, the map is big and open, going in the complete opposite direction that map design in Counter-Strike usually prefers (i.e. lanes and pathways and cover). And then, players don't spawn on each side of the map. Instead, players spawn into a tiny "deployment zone" and deploy into map proper. CT gets the four corners, and T gets the houses at the center with the hostages. Some loved it for being a crazy fun gun-fest in casual games, but others hated it for being uncompetitive and having a thick fog that slows framerate.

* ThatOneAchievement: Good luck trying to achieve "Ten Angry Men" in CSS without hacks. Dominating, and killing, 10 different players in a match requires a lot of skill. This is only usually achieved on maps that run 24/7.
