* HarsherInHindsight: Andrew's downfall seems eerily prophetic of Josh Trank's CreatorBreakdown during the development of ''Film/FantasticFour2015.'' Things start off good for him with the success of ''Chronicle,'' his [[PrimaDonnaDirector on-set behavior]] (which was allegedly caused by ExecutiveMeddling) [[RoleEndingMisdemeanor costing him his role as director of a]] ''Franchise/StarWars'' spin-off film, and the film's overall reception and [[BoxOfficeBomb box office numbers]] have made the film a potential CareerKiller for him.

* MoralEventHorizon: Richard crosses it when he [[spoiler:blames a comatose Andrew for Andrew's mom's death. He even tries to punch him while he was still in a coma. That is if there is any doubt that he did it by abusing and emotionally destroying Andrew in the first place.]] ** Andrew himself is a more complicated example. [[spoiler: He could be said to have crossed it when he caused that car-crash that left the driver at best hospitalised and at worst dead, but he is so broken and emotionally damaged that it is hard to lose all sympathy for him.]] ** The hoodlums who assaulted and beaten Andrew were cruel enough, that [[spoiler:their deaths didn't feel as particularly sad.]]

Song is not in movie or on OST apparently; fixed.
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMj4KRDHU0M "The Chronicle,"]] by Cuzzy Capone may be slightly unfitting, but doesn't it make you feel like the hero the boys feel like at the beginning? ** Not to mention [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVnhI6meKb0 "This Bright Flash"]] by M83 is exactly the kind of mood music you want to hear when the movie ends.

* SpiritualLicensee: What a lot of people think ''Chronicle'' is to [[Manga/{{Akira}} a certain anime/manga about telekinetic teenagers]], if it's not considered outright SerialNumbersFiledOff. ''Literature/{{Carrie}}'' comparisons are also pretty common.

* HilariousInHindsight: Seeing Andrew suffer at the hands of his dad and hang out with his superpowered friends is especially funny since Dane [=DeHaan=] is playing Harry Osborn in the ''Film/TheAmazingSpiderMan2''. More hilarious is seeing him destroy a spider with his power. ** HarsherInHindsight: We also see Andrew grow a taste for beating the crap out of his best friends and generally growing more insane by the day, partially thanks to his violent father. Now what is Harry Osborn famous for again? ** Also [[HilariousInHindsight hilarious]] is when Steve rescues the trucker, and his wet, now-skintight blue shirt begins to resemble a [[Film/FantasticFour2015 Fantastic Four uniform]].

* VisualEffectsOfAwesome: Considering that the movie was made on a $12,000,000 budget, the computer-generated effects are pretty impressive.

He is a Hate Sink.
* AlternateCharacterInterpretation: Andrew. Was [[spoiler: his final breakdown at the end]] a result of everything he had suffered, including getting set on fire... or did the morphine he was heavily doped up on exacerbate his already growing instability? Or both?

* TheScrappy: Richard Detmer. Very likely an IntendedAudienceReaction. ** Possibly a HateSink. ** Casey is pretty disliked for being an obvious plot device (there needing to be another camera).

* SpecialEffectsFailure: The floating Legos are very obvious CG, but...CG. * SleeperHit: The film had a modest budget for it's type and didn't have a whole lot of advertising, and was even dumped into theaters in January ''on Super Bowl weekend'', but the positive reception and word-of-mouth not only helped make it a big hit, but also gave some of the relatively then-unknown cast and crew their big break and are now currently involved with various future Hollywood productions. (For example, the aforementioned casting of Dane [=DeHaan=] in ''Film/TheAmazingSpiderMan2''.) * WhatAnIdiot: While the found-footage aspect is important to the narrative and going for a more "realistic" superhero movie, there's [[IdiotBall a noticeable logical disconnect]] [[GameplayAndStorySegregation in terms of how it would work within the story]] - particularly, in regards to what Andrew does after he nears the end of the ProtagonistJourneyToVillain. The biggest offenders would have to be when he films himself assaulting people and ''robbing a convenience store'', both of which would net him a few months (or years) in juvenile detention at the least.
