** Brumma is initially [[AmbiguousDisorder non-verbal]], but will occasionally exclaim a phrase Skalman has taught her: ''Hakuna matata!'' When her parents comment that only she and Skalman know what that means, Skalman says "Well, us and a few million others!". In 1989, before [[WesternAnimation/TheLionKing1994 a certain Disney movie]] popularized the phrase and long before Google was invented, finding out what he meant by that would not have been easy.

* SomeAnvilsNeedToBeDropped: In general, the series has dropped anvils about pacifism, redemption, racism and co-existence for its entire run... And pulled it off so well that some Swedes hold Bamse in higher regard when it comes to teaching children about basic morality than ''religious scriptures''. A stand-out example of this is when Rune A. opened a letter column with a response to a letter he had received, then spent the rest of the column explaining the Holocaust… to Pre-schoolers… [[SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome and did it really well]].

Added DiffLines:

* HeartwarmingInHindsight: Bamse's fourth child Brumma, introduced as having a intellectual disability which as of the 2010s has since been canonically defined as UsefulNotes/AspergersSyndrome is particularly heartwarming and striking as Bamse's voice actor at the time of Brumma's introduction was Olof Thunberg, whose granddaughter, Greta, born in 2003, would later be diagnosed and go on to become arguably the world's most famous aspie.

* MemeticMutation: "''I have a built-in compass''" said Skalman.
** To elaborate, some fans took sound clips from the animated stories (which were heavily narrated) and put them together in nonsensical ways, all of which are hilarious for their absurdity. Specifically, that line above is said with ''no context whatsoever''.
** "And then he flew out through the window!"

** In general, the series has dropped anvils about pacifism, redemption, racism and co-existence for its entire run. And they are all needed. As evidence of this trope, and how well it's pulled-off, is the fact that Bamse is in Sweden generally held in higher regard when it comes to teaching children about basic morality than religious scriptures are.

Added DiffLines:

* BrokenBase: Among the many anvils dropped by Rune A., the most famously divisive among readers (or, more likely, their parents) was his editorial comic about the necessity of [[spoiler:paying taxes]].

Added DiffLines:

* GeniusBonus: As a genius inventor character in an educational comic book, Skalman often delivers this trope. Notable examples:
**Brumma is initially [[AmbiguousDisorder non-verbal]], but will occasionally exclaim a phrase Skalman has taught her: ''Hakuna matata!'' When her parents comment that only she and Skalman know what that means, Skalman says "Well, us and a few million others!". In 1989, before the [[WesternAnimation/TheLionKing1994 a certain Disney movie]] popularized the phrase and long before Google was invetend, finding out what he meant by that would not have been easy.
** Skalman's workshop usually has a number of GeniusBonus references tucked away on book spines, notes, and signs on the wall. There's the ubiquitous E=mc2, and often a sign declaring "This time Hypatia will be defended!". Hypatia who? [[note]]You know, the fourth century Neoplatonist philosopher, astronomer, and mathematician, who according to legend was murdered by a Christian mob for heresy.[[/note]]

unfortunate implications need citations.

* UnfortunateImplications: Vargen, the canonical main villain of the franchise, is of course black. This certainly doesn't have to mean anything, but considering how often it has been brought up amongst the MoralGuardians it deserves a place on here. Especially ridiculous since Bamse has always been a bastion of political correctness, and since Vargen, with his FreudianExcuse and eventual HeelFaceTurn ended up as one of the most complex and sympathetic characters in the comic.
** There's also the fact that its Vargens FUR thats black, which has nothing to do with race.

Moving renamed trope per this thread [1]

* VillainDecay: Eventually, every villain aside from Krösus drifted into this, prompting the new villain Reinard to appear.
** Perhaps strongest with Vargen. He used to be, essentially, the world's most feared criminal, and you would think he would have some cunning, willpower or skill from that career to employ being nice instead, but no.

* NeutralGood: Bamse probably qualifies. He does follow a moral code when dealing with villains and has a strict sense of justice, and has even worked as a police or helped the police at several occasions, but he also has an outspoken distaste for prison sentences and sometimes breaks the law if he thinks it to be wrong.
