Except it wasn't a blockade. The Empire didn't have time for a blockade, they'd just shown up with a few Star Destroyers, nowhere near enough to blockade an entire planet, and been seen by the Rebels almost immediately besides. That, and even if the Empire had the time and resources on hand to create a proper blockade, it's impossible for there to not be a hole in the coverage somewhere. Space is big.

Except that there's no evidence that the transports are actually transporting any troops at all. Not even in the EU is there any indication that those ships had ground combat elements.

The "transports" I was referring to were the GR-75 medium transports, whose purpose is to carry stuff for ground battles.

First point: its a blockade. It would be a shitty blockade if the Empire didn't have ships covering most of the planet to prevent this basic tactic of escaping. The fact that they have to fly past a Star Destroyer indicates that they can't just fly away from the planet at a different angle. The second point is incredibly moronic; Why would Leia or Chewie, who have just escaped from being imprisoned, be carrying a tracking device? There's no reason to expect them to have any kind of tracking equipment on hand.

There is absolutely no evidence that the "transports" are carrying ground combat units.

Trying to fight against those odds, in those circumstances, would have only led to many a Senseless Sacrifice. The battle at the end of the film only goes well for Naboo because of the Gungans drawing away the bulk of the Federation's forces from Theed, and a miracle in the form of Anakin Skywalker that disables the Federation's army. This isn't like WW 2, where the existence of the R.A.F. made a German invasion of Britain impossible.
