As such, the quality animation of most of Jones other works.film has a very flat, graphic look which may be why it was never terribly popular.

'''''Gay Purr-ee''''' is an AnimatedMusical, made by [[Creator/ColumbiaCartoons United Productions of America]] and released by Creator/WarnerBros in 1962, about the adventures of two French cats, Mewsette (voiced by Creator/JudyGarland) and Jaune-Tom (voiced by Robert Goulet). Mewsette dreams of a better, more fabulous life while Jaune-Tom, her sweet but simple love interest, is content to live out in the country. Mewsette leaves for UsefulNotes/{{Paris}} and discovers that she must be taught how to be suave and lady-like. Enter Meowrice (veteran voice actor Creator/PaulFrees): a con-man who promises to teach her how to become the belle of all Paris when he really just wants to sell her off as a mail-order bride to a Mr. Henry Phtt in America. Jaune-Tom and his pocket-sized sidekick Robespierre (Red Buttons) go to Paris in search of her and adventure ensues.

The songs were written by Harold Arlen and E. Y. Harburg, the same team who did the songs in ''Film/TheWizardOfOz'', in their last significant collaboration. The film was co-scripted by Creator/ChuckJones and directed by one of his animators, Abe Levitow. Furthermore, since working on this film was in violation of his exclusive contract with Warner Brothers, Jones was fired. Whether this had anything to do with WB's animation department being closed the next year is unclear, but losing that genius certainly couldn't have helped.

* EmpathicEnvironment: When Mewsette arrives in Paris, it's the most spectacular place imaginable. When she flees Rubens-Chatte's to avoid being sold, it loses all its glitter because she is lost and alone in it. Once Jaune-Tom returns, it becomes beautiful again, symbolizing the Aesop she's learned; it's not the place that's important, but being with those who care for her. Jaune's [[WealthyEverAfter newfound wealth]] doesn't hurt either.

* ShoutOut: Paintings of Mewsette made by famous artists during the 1890s: Claude Monet, Creator/HenriDeToulouseLautrec, Georges Seurat, Henri Rousseau, Amedeo Modigliani, Creator/VincentVanGogh, Edgar Degas, Auguste Renoir, Paul Cézanne, Paul Gauguin and Creator/PabloPicasso.

Gorgeous as they all are, there's a nasty twist to it; they're basically ''progress reports'' for Henry Phtt to "[[ADateWithRosiePalms appreciate]]" while his mail-order bride is in transit.

* AWorldHalfFull: Paris loses all its glitter when Mewsette is lost and alone in it. All is well once Jaune-Tom returns, of course.
