* WartimeCartoon: "Andy Panda's Victory Garden" and "Air Raid Warden".

* PandaingToTheAudience: Featured prominently in "Life Begins for Andy Panda", where Mama Panda gives birth to Andy. This cartoon was produced after Su Lin was donated to the Brookfield Zoo in Chicago 3 years before, which prompted a consumer desire for panda-related products.

Compare [[Creator/MetroGoldwynMayer [=MGM=]]]'s own cartoon bear WesternAnimation/BarneyBear, which ran around the same time (and co-incidentally debuted in the same year).

The earliest batch of cartoons portrayed Andy as a young CheerfulChild and featured the misadventures of him and his BumblingDad, Poppa Panda. Later shorts gave Andy sole top billing and had him aged up into an adult [[TheEveryman Everyman]] in the same vein as [[MickeyMouse another contemporary animal cartoon character]].

* The Bandmaster: NamesTheSame as a 1930's WesternAnimation/WalterLantz cartoon starring WesternAnimation/OswaldTheLuckyRabbit. (Lundy) [[invoked]]

* SeldomSeenSpecies: It's not so much the case now, but back during UsefulNotes/TheGoldenAgeOfAnimation, Andy was the only panda seen in a western cartoon.

* TookALevelInJerkAss: Andy got hit with this ''hard'' in "The Painter and the Pointer", not only receiving an ugly redesign, but also receiving a nasty, foul-tempered personality, going as far as rigging a shotgun to his dog that will fire if he even budges, [[DisproportionateRetribution all just for messing up one of his paintings.]] [[TookALevelInKindness Thankfully, he immediately regressed to his softer persona in shorts afterwards]].
