It was created by Creator/LewisLovhaug, also known as Linkara, years before he became known for criticizing comic books on his WebOriginal series WebVideo/AtopTheFourthWall. Lovhaug wrote the series for its entire run and drew the comic up until June 17, 2009 when [[http://chadrocco.deviantart.com/ Chad Rocco]] became the comic's artist and then on December 7, 2011 [[http://sergexiii.deviantart.com/ Sergio Ragno]] became the artist for the remainder of the comic's run. By the comic's end, Lovhaug [[http://atopfourthwall.blogspot.ca/2013/09/state-of-wall-9-30-13-and-october-2013.html lost interest in continuing the series]] and not only [[SeriesHiatus shelved the project indefinitely]] but also [[PublicDomain officially released the comic]] [[PublicDomainCharacter and all of its characters]] [[PublicDomain into the Public Domain]]. In 2021, it was announced that the series would be rebooted by none other than Lovhaug's ex-girlfriend WebVideo/IronLiz.

* BreastExpansion: Subverted. Smiling Man stole a device for this purpose because it was also a reality warping weapon.
* {{Cameo}}: A few characters from other webcomics have appeared in the comic without speaking roles. The device mentioned above was also from another webcomic.

* CrapsackWorld: Pharos city when it was in control of the Slavers. Kidnappings happened every day and gang members would walk the streets with their victims in toe. Lightbringer put an end to this.

* {{Crossover}}: With Linkara (a character from ''Angel Armor'', not the creator), a character from a fantasy trilogy written by Lovhaug when he was 13. Webcomic/{{Mindmistress}} also appeared for one story as part of the Webcomic/CrossoverWars.

Except the depiction of slavery in this comic, where a gang of slavers took over an American city, killed all the policemen who dared to opposed them, and paraded their slaves around in broad daylight just made them come off as cartoonishly evil and about as far from reality as it gets.

It was written and drawn by Lovhaug through the first twelve-and-a-half issues. Artists [[http://chadrocco.deviantart.com/ Chad Rocco]] and [[http://sergexiii.deviantart.com/ Sergio Ragno]] illustrated the remaining issues in the comic's run.

Since Lovhaug has other [[WebVideo/AtopTheFourthWall priorities]] [[WebVideo/HistoryOfPowerRangers to attend to]] (also another webcomic called Revolution of the Mask), Lightbringer [[SeriesHiatus has not updated]] since August 19, 2012. The comic is about the coming of superheros in modern times, specifically the one who starts the movement. Carter Granholme, a humble furniture store owner living in Pharos City, possessed light-based abilities all his life, but abiding by the wishes of his ultra-pacifist parents Carter never used his powers. Years after they were killed by a criminal organization, having become fed up of the crime in his city, he goes against what his parents taught him to become fight crime and become Lightbringer, the world's first superhero.

With the rise of the superhero comes the rise of supervillains who tend to have a philosophical point to make. As a result, Carter often struggles with the nature of good versus evil and the role of a superhero in society. One of Carters employees, Hannah Ments, gets wise to his double life and actively helps him in his fight against crime. She has since become a fan favorite.
