''[[http://www.vastderp.com/kagerou/ Kagerou]]'' is an ongoing {{webcomic}} about an androgynous young man who is [[TrappedInAnotherWorld transported to a fantastical]] AlternateUniverse, where he, as the ChosenOne, teams up with the rest of the FiveManBand to save the princess and vanquish the BigBad in the process. What? You've heard this one before? Oh, we forgot: the hero is a mentally unsound hippie-nerd with several alternate personalities, one of which is his neurotic 8-year-old self (maybe), another of which is actually a psychopathic, serial murder-rapist's vengeful ghost. And it's entirely plausible that the entire thing might just be a [[GainaxEnding head-trauma induced hallucination...]]

* AbusiveParents: Kano's father, if [[http://www.vastderp.com/kagerou/49/23.html this]] is any indication. WordOfGod is that both of his parents [[AcceptableReligiousTargets were Scientologists]] (freezoners, to be exact), which probably did ''wonders'' for Kano's mental state, but it's also said specifically [[spoiler:that Nadia's death was ''not'' because of their religion]].

* OurGodsAreGreater: In Grey World, gods are are normal beings who AscendedToAHigherPlaneOfExistence ([[AnimalMotifs a tree, a spider, a dragon, a fox]]). Others can ascend similarly through a corrupt version of this process, through collecting [[OurSoulsAreDifferent souls]]: [[BigBad Two]] have tried this so far. Every person is born affiliated with one of the gods in a life-steering capacity, and gods' existences are reflected in the stars, which mold fate a bit. * EverythingsBetterWithPrincesses: Princess Tonbo, who looks a lot like someone Kano used to know... from a mental hospital. The "everything's better" part is also subverted in that Tonbo was raised to be Tcaolin's SoulJar and wasn't even allowed to use her hands, and if she does merge with Tcaolin she essentially dies. WordOfGod is that Tonbo is, in part, based on Anthy from ''RevolutionaryGirlUtena'', which similarly deconstructs princess tropes.
