* BrilliantButLazy: Walky exhibits traits of this, especially due to the fact that he has said that he has been "very good at gettin' "A"s without havin' to do anything." Even before his academic background comes up, Willis made a point of showing him to be the sort of person who could casually reference Creator/MCEscher in conversation. However, recent events have shown he does have limits, with college-level material kicking his ass once initial review units end.

* AuthorTract: Willis often uses his comic to explore bigotry, specifically the way fundimentalism can nurture that quality in people and the effects it can have on others. Joyce's arc is about exorcising hers, while Becky, Leslie, and Carla's arcs are about dealing with other people's. Sal specifically is struggling with the way her parents treated her for being "blacker" than her brother.

* SkewedPriorities: Galasso fires Sydney not for screwing up an order, but for confusing Dina and Becky. He wouldn't have fired her at all, if Sydney had managed to intimidate the two into going with it.

** In early 2017, Leslie's apartment is shown to have a Star Wars: The Force Awakens poster hanging in it. Shortpacked established Leslie as being a Star Wars fan. Specifically, the poster is of General Leia. Back in Shortpacked, Leslie told Robin that it was watching Return of the Jedi and seeing Leia in the slave bikini that helped her realize she was gay.

** Roz. She encourages safe sex and even insisted on putting a clause of politically correct language in her roommate agreement, but is also not above sabotaging her sister's political career because the two have opposing views.
** Joe, and he makes this crystal clear early on. (Turns out he's actually pretty heavy on the ethics too, to the point that his promiscuity appears to be his only character flaw.) For example, he's visibly shaken when Joyce freaks out at him after the (unrelated) incident at the party, and he nearly cries when Danny calls him a bad wingman. Even his style of promiscuity counts as a kind of ethics, as it makes him perfectly honest and up-front about his intentions to anyone he hits on.

** Roz. Roz's sexual ethics are pretty strong, making a point of--for instance--asking Joe if it's okay to tape their encounter. She encourages also goes out of her way to promote safe sex and even insisted counciling for rape victims. Her ethics on putting things that aren't sex are a clause of politically correct language in her roommate agreement, but is also bit iffy, however, as she's often been mean to Joyce when it's clear she's doing more harm than good, and may or may not above sabotaging her sister's political career because the two have opposing views.been planning to out her bisexual older sister.
** Joe, and he makes this crystal clear early on. (Turns out he's actually Joe fancies himself one of these, but--intentionally or not--he's pretty heavy on the ethics too, bad at it, claiming to value consent while clearly not quite understanding what it means. He continues trying to get Joyce in bed during their date long past the point that his promiscuity appears where it's clear she's uncomfortable with it, he needs to be snapped at by Sarah to stop making eyes at her despite her own angry eyes being an unsubtle cue, and his only character flaw.) For example, he's visibly shaken when Joyce freaks out at entire list of times it's not okay to have sex with a girl is "when she's drunk" and "when she's crying." His supposed ethics also don't stop him after from treating the (unrelated) incident at women around him like objects, keeping an actual list of the party, women on campus by vague discription and he nearly cries when Danny calls him a bad wingman. ** Walky.
** Joyce.
** Dina, due to having NoSocialSkills.

to:

** Walky.
Walky may be intelligent and sarcastic, but a lot of his behavior, most notably his horrible diet and attitude towards masculinity, would look a lot better on a fourth grader than a college student.
** Joyce.
Joyce's fundimentalist upbringing means she's got a shallow knowledge base for most normal teenage topics but a deep one for Biblical minutia. Walky's described her superpower as "being able to say the scariest, most messed-up crap while somehow thinkin' it sounds fantastic."

* CharacterDevelopment: Even though it's early on and pacing is slow, we've seen quite a bit:
** Sarah swallowed her pride and apologized to Raidah for punching her in their altercation after Joyce advised her to. Raidah was clearly surprised and suspicious, but decided she sounded genuine. Both sides sound calmer and more civil now if not exactly friends.
** While Billie is still in denial about her drinking, she has realized she's no longer at the top of the social pyramid. Not to mention how out of shape she is. And after both and she's really beginning to question her sexuality.
** Joyce might be perky and still a caricature of fundamentalists. But she is genuinely tolerant of others and has taken steps towards self improvement. She's formed friendships with people very unlike her (Dorothy, Sarah, etc.), tried dating and is clearly dealing with the trauma of having .
