* OurSoulsAreDifferent: Souls are a... complex matter on Remnant.
** Beings with souls, which includes all living creatures aside from the Grimm, have an Aura, which upon being unlocked (either through training or an emergency jump-start by a person whose already unlocked theirs) allows them special powers and abilities. Most common is channeling their Aura into their weapons and equipment, allowing them to turn even harmless objects into lethal implements. They can also project that Aura outward, unleashing various types of KiAttacks and generating a DeflectorShield to protect themselves.
** Aura is also used to fuel each person's Semblance, a power unique to themselves, and tied with both themselves and their personalities.
** In addition, the soul has some more esoteric properties. In Volume 3, Ozpin attempts to [[spoiler: merge Amber's soul with Pyrrha's, hoping that in doing so, it will transfer Amber's Maiden powers to Pyrrha so they won't be claimed by Cinder, but he worries that this may result in Pyrrha losing her own sense of self.]] Later on, [[spoiler: Ozpin's own soul has, in his words, begun to merge with that of a farmer named Oscar, sharing their memories and thoughts.]]
