* ComicallyIneptHealing: In the manga, Arcueid doesn't quite finish regenerating through the night, so she sort-of finishes the job with staples and packing tape, since her much higher pain threshold barely registers the difference. An annoyed Shiki cleans her wounds and properly dresses her with actual medical supplies.

* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: During the Kagetsu Tohya main storyline, Shiki may muse to himself that a TwinThreesome|Fantasy with Hisui and Kohaku sounds appealing, but knows that it's impossible. It could only happen in a world with no one else in it to get in the way. That night, he falls into a deep sleep and has a FateWorseThanDeath nightmare where he's stuck in a world with literally no one and nothing outside the mansion or even Akiha around. He goes insane.

* JapaneseSiblingTerminology: Akiha always refers to Shiki as "Nii-san" to refer to Shiki and Hisui always refers to Kohaku as "Nee-san." When either of them use another term, it means [[spoiler:Akiha's talking about her real older brother]] and [[spoiler:It's actually Kohaku impersonating Hisui]].

* DreamWithinADream: Kagetsu Tohya takes place inside a dream. Flowers of Thanatos is a nightmare Shiki has inside it presumably as a result of an ill thought out wish granted by Len. Inside ''that'' dream, he still sleeps at night.

* EldritchAbomination: This is a Nasu game, so expect a lot of them. However, of particular note are the 27 Dead Ancestor Apostles, exceedingly powerful super vampires that are basically [[Manga/JojosBizarreAdventure the Pillar Men]] on steroids, and the TYPES, [[spoiler: horrific embodiments of entire planets, of which Arcueid is one of them; Archetype-EARTH.]] Possibly the biggest one of them all is ORT, the TYPE-Mercury, [[spoiler: a ginormous crystal spider that can't be killed ''at all'', simply because it ''cannot comprehend the concept of death.'']]

* EldritchAbomination: This ORT is a Nasu game, so expect a lot of them. However, of particular note are the 27 Dead Ancestor Apostles, exceedingly powerful super vampires spider like creature from Mercury that crashed landed in South America thousands of years ago. It keeps to itself in a state of dormancy unless someone bothers it, but in the mean time its sheer presence warps the world around it into some bizarre crystal landscape. There are basically [[Manga/JojosBizarreAdventure other creatures like it for the Pillar Men]] on steroids, and the TYPES, [[spoiler: horrific embodiments of entire other planets, of which Arcueid is but Earth was never able to make one of them; Archetype-EARTH.]] Possibly for itself, so it asked Crimson Moon for help and eventually made the biggest one True Ancestors in its image. Crimson Moon itself is more of them all is a HumanoidAbomination in that it's the same time of being as ORT, the TYPE-Mercury, [[spoiler: a ginormous crystal spider that can't be killed ''at all'', simply because it ''cannot comprehend the concept but is actually capable of death.'']]things like speaking.

** In the manga, [[TheHunter Ciel]] tests whether Akiha has it in her to be a murderer by threatening her [[BerserkButton and her brother]] and then fighting her to the death. What Akiha doesn't know is that Ciel [[spoiler:[[NighInvulnerable cannot be (permanently) killed/injured]]]], so Ciel is free to test Akiha's power with impunity and make Akiha stab her in the face. Akiha's horror showed that she wasn't a killer.

Years later, Shiki is now a high-school student and living a normal life--that is, until he receives some devastating news: his father has died, and he must return to the main Tohno household at once. As Shiki settles into his new school and attempts to reconnect with his estranged family, he happens to meet a [[RedEyesTakeWarning strange blonde-haired woman with piercing red eyes]]. Seized by an overwhelming bloodlust, Shiki regains his senses to find that he has savagely murdered the woman for no apparent reason. What force compelled him to carry out such an act, and how is it linked to his family's occult past and his "Mystic Eyes of Death Perception"? And... hang on, did that red-eyed lady just show up again looking no worse for wear? And does she have a ''crush'' on Shiki now?!

* FoeRomanceSubtext: Heavily implied between Ciel and Arcuied. At one point Ciel blushes and licks her lips in anticipation when about to get into fight with Arcueid. Arcueid on the other hand, does things like fondling Ciels butt when drunk, and generally teases and annoy her in similar way she does Shiki.
