It's 2241, and the tribal village of Arroyo is an okay place to live. Aside from the trading caravans that come by every once in a blue moon, you and your family -- the tribe -- are completely isolated from the outside world, living life peacefully as one with mother nature... but nothing is ever that simple.

* AssholeVictim: NCR as a whole is doing some very shady stuff in order to forcefully annex Vault City, including collaborating with a mob boss and using raiders to harass it, and even goes so far as to [[spoiler:turn its people into second-class citizens]] in some of the endings. These would be very serious charges if Vault City wasn't such a bigoted, elitist society that fuels the slave economy.

** The Vindicator Minigun, despite being the strongest gun in the game, proven to take down TheDragon in one combat turn using the right build, eats up rare ammo like a starved pig. You can build up a pretty fast supply of ammo by farming random Hubologist encounters though, as many of them have [[CoolGuns H&K G11Es]] on them, which uses the same 4.7 Caseless ammo.

It's just a funny reference you're not supposed to take it seriously.

** The Chosen One is from the tribal village of Arroyo, which has regressed so much from the vault inhabitants they're descended from that they treat Vault 13 like a holy site spoken of in legend and revere the Vault Dweller's uniform in a temple, have a limited understanding of currency, and the village is very barebones with no advanced technology. Despite coming from this background, the Chosen One's snarkier dialogue options throughout the game let them play along with its numerous pop culture references in a manner that implies they know of the material firsthand. For instance, you can quote ''Film/MontyPythonAndTheHolyGrail'' at several points, but there's no plausible way the Chosen One should know anything about the film.

''Fallout 2'', part of, of course the ''VideoGame/{{Fallout}}'' series, was released in 1998. This installment improves much upon [[VideoGame/Fallout1 its predecessor]], being a game where you can do just about anything, within reason. Depending on your actions, intelligence, charisma, gender and patience, each playthrough is a ''wildly'' different experience. Numerous pop culture references make this game a troper's best friend.

** One of Bishop's quests is to eliminate Roger Westin in a way that does not pin it as a hit coming from him. Working options include sneaking him some chems (including a super stimpak) which will cause him to die of a heart attack, poisoning him outright, or, bizarrely, sneaking explosives onto him.
** All of the bosses in New Reno have some way to be killed without directly fighting them: you can change the lock on Bishop's trapped safe, causing him to blow himself up; Big Jesus Mordeno and Louis Salvatore can be killed by respectively any chem or the debuff of a super stimpak; and you can give a gun to one of Orville Wright's children, [[VideoGameCrueltyPotential telling him to wave it in his daddy's face and pull the trigger]].
