A remake of the first game in the series, at one point, an Anniversary edition was being made by Creator/CoreDesign, but this project was shut down because they no longer owned the rights to the series. The development of a game celebrating Tomb Raiders 10-year anniversary was instead transferred to Creator/CrystalDynamics, resulting in this game. The game shepherds in much of the movement and traversal mechanics introduced in Legend, as well as reframing the original to tie it in as a prequel.

Lara never gets captured or bound in the game

* BoundAndGagged: Lara ends up tied up by after getting ambushed at the end of the Egypt level. Of course, it doesn't take her too much time to free herself after being locked up in their boat.

* ControllableHelplessness: After getting captured at the end of the Egypt level, the prelude for Natla's mines has Lara tied up inside her captor's boat, and you get to control her with her hands bound behind her back while looking for a way to escape.
