* ScrewTheRulesTheyBrokeThemFirst: A very nasty subversion happens very early on. Iselia has a non-aggression treaty with the Desian human ranch, stating that Iselia will be unharmed as long as nobody interferes with the ranch. When a bunch of uniformed half-elven FacelessGoons charge through the town and attack the temple, everyone cites that the Desians have broken the treaty, which Genis uses to justify saving a victim at the ranch. [[spoiler:Turns out, those weren't Desians; they were Renegades, and]] Forcystus, the ranch leader, proceeds to '[[KillItWithFire bring judgement]]' upon Iselia.

** A weird example that only makes sense in hindsight: [[spoiler:when Kratos does his HeelFaceTurn, the game largely averts SoLongAndThanksForAllTheGear by returning all of his equipment... except his weapon[[note]]Which is a particular pain if you customized a Silver Sword for him[[/note]]. This is because a character's weapon slot ''cannot'' be empty, which indicates that he'll be returning at some point or another; when he returns at the Iselia Human Ranch, the weapon you had on him (by now invariably outdated) is returned, as he has his Flamberge. If you go the route where Zelos turns traitor, you are likewise returned all of your gear... but this one includes his weapon, because Zelos as a party character just ''doesn't exist'' anymore.]]
