* StupidityIsTheOnlyOption: At Byakko City. The "Tamers" in the gym are obviously evil, with their military uniforms, but you've no choice to walk right into their trap.

** Bulbmon is a boss example, running away after having it's health at critical point. Only at the first encounter though.

* MoreDakka: Armormon, Monmon's Ultimate form, is essentially a [[NinjaPirateZombieRobot robotic centaur outfitted with enough guns to take on a small army]]... and it's Finisher has it ''fire every single one of them at the enemy''. Of course, there is no such thing as enough dakka... though Cannondramon, its Mega stage which is [[UpToEleven a giant dinosaur with cannons up the wazoo]] comes pretty darn close.

* AwesomeButImpractical : Many finishers ultimately falls into this. Cool animations, but the damage are comparable to standard elemental moves that you can unlock and costs way higher than those moves, sometimes it's even weaker than the standard attack. There's a lot of cases where a player wonder why their Mega finisher deals little damage after the DifficultySpike on Amaterasu Server.

** You run away even if you can beat him, because you have to get Sepikmon's mask first, unfortunately.

* TheDevTeamThinksOfEverything: Asuka City has a card shop with four tamers, each one with two sets of decks: a weak deck you see at the beginning and a buffed-up deck you usually see near the endgame. There's also a Divermon that has two sets of cards: ginormous powerhouses sold at ungodly amounts of cash at the beginning of the game (including Blackwargrowlmon, a brown Mega card you can practically cast for free and who is not easily countered at that point of the game) and more dullish cards near the endgame. Both the tamers and Divermon are programmed to switch cards after a point in the game, but the tamers will immediately override that and switch to their endgame decks if the player manages to buy at least one of the cards on Divermon's "powerhouse" set. You'll basically get screwed by the first card tamers that you can play against if you so much buy one of the powerful cards, but to be fair you'd have to be incredibly patient in order to get that much money so early in the game (read: you've got to be cheating).

* ContinuingIsPainful: If all of your Digimon get [=KO'd=], you'll be sent back to the title screen. Haven't saved the game in a while? Too bad!

* VideoGameGeography / EldritchLocation: Mobius Desert. It's easy to get lost in it due to its atypical geometry, seeming endlessness, and the identicality of all its cells (except for NPCs). It is in fact a 4x4 toroidal grid, which may be exited only by moving in the right direction from the right cell.
