The Call of Duty: Ghosts is the tenth video game in the popular FPS FirstPersonShooter series VideoGame/CallOfDuty, developed by Infinity Ward, Ghosts Ward and released in November 2013. The game was intended to be the start of an entirely new subseries for the franchise by acclaimed writer/director Stephen Gaghan. Stephen Gaghan (Film/Traffic2000, Film/Syriana). However, his talent and Hollywood success did not extend to the first-person shooter realm, and the Ghosts brand and storyline was retired after this one installment due to lackluster sales and criticism of its plot and villains.

* TakenDuringTheEnding: Right at the very end of the game, [[spoiler:Rorke (somehow) turns up alive after being shot point blank and falling into the ocean to capture Logan, expressing his intention to torture him into killing his fellow Ghosts. This was to set up for a sequel, but due to Ghosts poor reception and performance, Infinity Ward took the series in a different direction with the next game, leaving the Ghosts storyline abandoned with no conclusion]].

* DrillTheLock: During the "Clockwork" mission, the Logan helps drill through the hydraulic seals of a vault door protecting an R&D facility. Players have to drill just far enough to avoid triggering the back trip plate countermeasure, and afterwards, thermite and explosives are used to blow the hinges.

* Four Man Band: CIF 1, which has 4 major roles:
** Weapon Specialist: Highest Damage Output, and can boost damage of allies for a short period of time.
** Tank: Increased health and melee damage, and can become invincible for a short time, while focusing all Cryptid attention on them.
** Engineer: Increased drill armor, and can make traps more efficient. Has the ability to produce an impenetrable forcefield around them.
** Medic: Increased health regeneration, and revive allies quicker. Has the ability to produce a stasis ring capable of instantly reviving downed allies (but not dead allies).

* AluminumChristmasTrees: Yes, guns can shoot in space, though obviously not as well as they do in atmosphere.Even if the gunpowder is self-oxidizing to allow the gun to fire in space, exposure to vacuum may flash-evaporate the lubrication, to say nothing of leftover heat from firing Overheating having nowhere to radiate away from the gun, meaning the parts would expand and prevent movement after a couple of shots. And yes, there do exist guns that were specifically designed to fire bullets while underwater.

* ArtisticLicenceSpace:
** The ODIN station would not fall into the atmosphere and begin burning up immediately after the RCS (Reaction Control System) is destroyed. It would still have a lot of "horizontal" velocity keeping it in orbit.
** The OrbitalBombardment wouldn't really work, as the rods would still have that "horizontal" velocity mentioned above. Aiming the station directly at the target would result in a complete miss.
** The shots from the ODIN station wouldn't hit their target as quickly as shown in-game, and would likely lose significant mass from reentry heat, if not be disintegrated entirely, depending on how fast they're going.

TRS wick cleaningRare Guns has been cut

* RareGuns: While Modern Warfare featured mainly commonly-seen-in-video-games guns such as the M4, AK-47, P90, etc, the arsenal in Ghosts consists largely of rarely seen firearms such as the AAC Honey Badger, Remington R5, Beretta [=ARX-160=], etc.

Sequel Difficulty Spike is now YMMV. Is a game mode a sequel?

* SequelDifficultySpike: The main campaign is pretty standard Call of Duty difficulty, but the Safeguard co-op game mode is significantly more difficult than the similar Survival Mode from VideoGame/CallOfDutyModernWarfare3. You can survive much less damage in Safeguard compared to Survival Mode, while enemies have much more health and are super aggressive.

* ArtificialBrilliance: The Multiplayer Bots are made to behave exactly like real players, even when playing with bots in local matches.
** When it came to bots the biggest mistake any player could make was (and still is) giving the enemy team a light machine gun, sniper rifle, or marksman rifle, as bots can camp just like players which can hilariously result in the bot(s) camping using a weapon from those categories, basically making it nearly impossible to gain access to a certain location in whatever map the game mode happens to take place on. While other Call Of Duty titles have the same situation, Ghosts seems to be the most notable when it comes to bot intelligence. They can, do this with other weapons as well, but these three weapon categories seem to be the most common bots will camp with.

* GenericDoomsdayVillain: The Federation appear to have no real motive other than "blow up America", which they seem to want solely because they're the antagonists in a Call of Duty game. The entire faction has only four characters from it: Victor Ramos, TheDragon who appears for all of five minutes; General Almargo, who is there solely to be an assassination target and doesn't even have any lines; the leader of the Federation, who is TheGhost, and again has no lines; and Rorke, who was brainwashed into supporting the Federation (rather than performing a genuine FaceHeelTurn, so we have none of that pesky "character depth" getting in the way; his entire character consists of Revenge wanting to kill the Ghosts for abandoning him) and thus can't show us any insight into their motives. We get no insight into their history, culture, or even their ideology. They seem to exist solely so that the Ghosts can commit all the war crimes they want without looking bad.

* AbortedArc: This game was meant to kickstart the spiritual successor series of the VideoGame/ModernWarfare trilogy in tone and gameplay. However, the game ended up selling way less than Videogame/CallOfDutyBlackOpsII and its reception was mixed at best, with its online player population being only the half that of Black Ops II, prompting Infinity Ward's next game, VideoGame/CallofDutyInfiniteWarfare, to lean more heavily on science fiction. Consequently, players of this game were left with with an incomplete story and SuddenDownerEnding with no follow up.
