Until ''Battlefield: Bad Company'', all games in the series used the Refractor engine, developed by Refraction Games for use in their video game ''Codename Eagle'' (DICE later bought out Refraction Games). After that, DICE switched to using Frostbite Engine (which they also developed), though some of the spin-off still use Refractor.
