* TroubledProduction: In season 2, the writers had to contend with TheMovie siphoning off the production staff's most talented people, having to do a gigantic block of filler episodes to make up for the previous, Konami executives forcing rewrites to promote cards that were soon to come out, real-life events forcing more rewrites, Aki's voice actress requesting time off for her wedding, resulting in the character being DemotedToExtra, and more. While this season is generally considered inferior to the first for obvious reasons, many fans, once the full story broke, expressed amazement that the writers managed to resolve everything even semi-satisfactorially.

** While the original Japanese airings avoided this, getting a consistent timeslot and never going on hiatus, the dubbed American airings weren't so lucky. First appearing on the CW Saturday morning block, its timeslots constantly changed around, airing as early as 7am or as late as almost noon. It also went on hiatuses often, and refused to air certain episodes due to sensitive content. Finally CW stopped airing it since DM proved to get better ratings. 5D's did a ChannelHop to Cartoon Network, but its problems didn't end there. Episodes aired at 8am on weekdays, a time when most of the target audience would be attending school. New episodes updated randomly and one had to check the 4kids website to find the latest episodes. Oh, and streaming episodes are only available for Americans. And then the 8AM timeslot was reserved for reruns of Anime/Pokemon. Back to the CW.

* HeyItsThatVoice:
** Especially prominent in the dubbed version, since 4kids recycles their actors a ton. We have Yusei as Tristan, Jack Atlas as Bakura, Ushio is Yami, and (early on) Rex is Saiou and Grandpa. Aki's VA is also Mai Valentine's Season 4 voice, and the Dark Magician Girl (notice a trend?).
** Aki's Japanese voice is Jasmine.
** Jack Atlas's Japanese one is Van and Honest.
** Takasu is Garterbelt.
** Harald is Leeron. You will never look at Harald the same again.
** Rudger is Akuma, aka Gouki.
** The German dub also recycles some voice actors from previous series. Most notably, Divine gets the voice actor of the little Yugi. Of course, German fans love Kiryu's German voice. It's freaking Son Goku!
** In Episode 85 'Mother Knows Best', Zora's son, Lyndon, is voiced by Robbie Amell.

* RelationshipVoiceActor: We know that Yusei and Kiryu are friends. And they were best friends before the bad stuff happened to Kiryu. Their German voice actors are Wanja Gerick and Tommy Morgenstern, who voiced Krillin and Son Goku, respectively.

** It's been suggested that this is also the reason why the Arcadia Movement was never followed up on, due to a recent at the time scandal in Japan involving a cult, and thus the series' creators doing their best to avoid anything cult-related.
