* TruthInTelevision: If you thought a media company wouldn't really engineer a war for ratings, you'd actually be wrong. Back in TheSixties, CBS subsidized a planned mercenary coup of Haitian dictator Francois Duvalier for the purpose of shooting a television documentary. The FBI foiled the invasion plot, and CBS was chewed out by the FCC and the House Commerce Committee over the incident.

*** The Paris Carver role was supposedly intended to be an actual previous Bond Girl, maybe even Natalya, but this was nixed at the realization that it might upset audiences to see a former Bond Girl that they had liked get killed off.

* HideYourPregnancy: Creator/TeriHatcher was three months pregnant during shooting. This meant that a love scene had to be abandoned.
* HostilityOnTheSet: Creator/PierceBrosnan and Creator/TeriHatcher feuded briefly during filming due to her arriving late onto the set one day. The matter was quickly resolved though and Brosnan apologised to Hatcher after realising she was pregnant and was late for that reason.

* RaceLift: Henry Gupta was originally written as a young man from India.

* RealLifeWritesThePlot: The plot was supposed to be about the reunification of Hong Kong and China, but someone realised they wouldn't be able to get the film done in time, resulting in rewrites that caused the last act to be all action and barely any plot.

** Teri Hatcher later expressed her dissatisfaction with the part of Paris Carver, saying it was "an artificial kind of character to be playing that you don't get any special satisfaction from it". In the film itself it's clear she doesn't want to be there. She's claimed that she only took on the role to fulfill her then-husband's wish of being married to a Bond girl.

** Creator/MonicaBellucci was nearly cast as Paris Carver, but the role was then given to Teri Hatcher. Considering that a lot people disliked Hatcher's acting in this movie, it was probably in the producers' best interest to keep their original choice. Bellucci would have to wait [[Film/{{Spectre}} 18 years]] before she would have the chance to play a Bond Girl.

* TroubledProduction: The film was given a release date with no pre-production work completed (and intended to coincide with the release of the company's public stock offering), and things went downhill from there. The script wasn't ready to shoot on the first day of filming, actors supposedly weren't speaking with each other, verbal sparring between director Roger Spottiswoode and writer Bruce Feirstein persisted and the entire production (from the first day of shooting to its release) took a scant six months. One British newspaper summed it up saying, "All the happiness and teamwork which is the hallmark of Bond has disappeared completely," and Creator/PierceBrosnan said that making this film was like pulling teeth.
