** Creator/MelGibson was considered for the role of Odin, which would have made a scene in the sequel where Odin makes bigoted remarks about Jane extra uncomfortable Creator/NataliePortman is Jewish and Gibson has been criticized for anti-Semitic remarks in the past.

** Chris Hemsworth likes to joke that this is how he was casted. He initially didn't make the short list for the part. A comment made by his brother Liam, who had made the short list, made them reconsider. Chris insists that they told him he got the part ultimately because they were tired of looking.

* MeanCharacterNiceActor: TomHiddleston, who plays Loki, can nail cold, calculating and manipulative like nobody's business. In real life, he comes across as very sweet, enthusiastic and clearly delighted with his job and can barely contain his glee when gushing about his costars and genuinely appreciates his fans. Stan Lee has described him as "the sweetest, nicest guy you could ever meet".

* Playing Against Type: Film Directing: KennethBranagh, who's better known for Shakespearean films, took a turn at directing a superhero flick. This is apparently because he was a fan of the comic as a child.

** Creator/DanielCraig was Marvel's initial choice for Thor but ultimately turned it down due to his commitments to the Film/JamesBond franchise.
*** During early production stages, Creator/BradPitt, Creator/ChanningTatum, and even Wrestling/TripleH were considered for the role of Thor.
*** Creator/CharlieHunnam, Joel Kinnaman, and Creator/AlexanderSkarsgard all screen-tested for the titular part, which would have made for an interesting dynamic considering Alexander's father Creator/StellanSkarsgard played Erik in the film.
*** Let's not forget that blue-eyed, blond-haired, 6'2", classically trained Creator/TomHiddleston originally auditioned for the role of Thor, even going so far as to put on 3.5 stone (that's 49 lbs!) of muscle for the part. He didn't get the role of Thor, but Understatement things turned out pretty okay for him regardless.

** Not only does Titus Pullo play Volstagg, but Kevin [=McKidd=] (AKA Lucius Vorenus) was originally slated to play Dr. Donald Blake before the character was cut from the story. If he'd stayed in, Pullo and Vorenus would've gotten one hell of a reunion.
