* UnintentionalPeriodPiece: For much of the late 2000s and early 2010s, especially with regards to the technology and pop culture references. In season two, the most coveted gift at the office's Secret Santa exchange is an [=iPod=] 5G (and understandably so: Ryan remarks that it costs $400). Jim and Pam's wedding in season six is an extended ShoutOut to a [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JK_Wedding_Entrance_Dance then-popular YouTube video]]. Characters are frequently shown using Blackberries and flip phones, and several storylines center on Dunder-Mifflin's declining sales in an increasingly "paperless world." [[FunnyAneurysmMoment On a darker note]], much of Michael's behavior toward his subordinates, while always PlayedForLaughs in the show, would most definitely not fly '''at all''' today, especially in light of the "Me Too" movement that began in 2017 and the continuing exposure of workplace harassment and abuse.

** Indie darling Creator/ZooeyDeschanel was apparently offered a regular role on the show for Season 8, but ultimately turned it down in favor of the lead in the {{Creator/FOX}} sitcom ''{{Series/New Girl}}''.

** Although Creator/RickyGervais did appear on the show (twice!) as his character David Brent from the original UK series, there had previously been plans for Mackenzie Crook, Martin Freeman, and Lucy Davis to reprise their roles as Gareth, Tim, and Dawn during the show's fourth season. For whatever reason these plans fell through (some sources blame scheduling conflicts, others blame the writers' strike) and Gervais, who ironically ''wasn't'' planned to appear originally, was ultimately the only one who did.

* MarathonRunning: When cable channel TBS secured the rerun rights to the show, they made a habit of airing four or six episodes in a row one day a week, instead of one episode a day. This lead to a lampshading on an episode of ''WesternAnimation/{{Futurama}}''... the Planet Express ship is converted to a passenger ship. When one passenger gets upset at the inflight entertainment provided by Dr Zoiberg, she yells "Turn down the lights and put on four episodes of ''TheOffice''!"

** Ryan Howard shares his name with baseball player Ryan Howard, who won an MVP award with the Philadelphia Phillies during the show's run. Although WordOfGod said this was coincidence, it's a little harder to believe when one finds out what team Howard played for during the show's development in 2004: the Phillies' AAA affiliate, the [=Scranton/Wilkes-Barre=] Red Barons. The baseball Howard eventually did a cameo as himself to bring it full circle.
