* FountainOfExpies: Following Abyss's success, Van has become the UrExample for the WellIntentionedExtremist BigBad for the series with many after having traits he had. Characters like [[TalesOfVesperia Duke]], [[TalesOfXillia Gaius]], and [[TalesOfBerseria Artorius]] all take some kind of inspiration from Van in terms of their motivations or design.

* TalkingToHimself: Replicas = same voice actor, thus highly justified. There's also an in-game example, when [[spoiler:Lorelei possesses Tear to speak to Luke.]] As he says in the scene, they are the same person [[spoiler:or at least the same fonon sentience.]]

* FanNickname:
** Luke's FanNickname is Ambassador Asshat, for when he cranks up his {{Jerkass}} nature UpToEleven as an ambassador to Akzeriuth. That's what happens when you give a spoiled rich kid authority and tell him that his freedom and the opportunity to work alongside his beloved father figure ride entirely on him doing an impressive job.
** Mr.Ending! [[spoiler:The red haired man, that could be Luke or Asch depending on viewer interpretation, who comes back at the end.]]
** Master Badtouch for Van due to a certain scene on the ferry to Chesedonia between him and Luke.

* ThemeTuneCameo: A rather unique version of this trope appears in Abyss. Though the game's title theme, Karma, is only remixed for two songs, many of the lyrics of the song were used as titles for many of the songs, especially those having to do with [[spoiler: Luke, Asch and Van]]:

** Speaking of the restored content, the party was all originally going to have second level Mystic Artes, but only Luke, Jade, and Tear were able to get theres finished in time for the release of the game. Guy, Natalia, and Anise had voice lines and attack information present in game, but not in a completed fashion. This lead to the localization team finishing them for the western release.
** Datamined files show that Dist was supposed to have a Mystic Arte cut-in just like the others. He was likely supposed to have a Mystic Arte, but because he isn't the one typically fighting you, it was removed.

* BadExportForYou: Although the English-language version generally has what is considered a [[SugarWiki/SuperlativeDubbing superb dub]], the skits weren't recorded in English. New Mystic Artes and costumes were added to the game, but most people agree those didn't compensate (in part ''because'' the dub was already great and the skits would have provided Lowenthal, Bosch and Thornton in particular some of the game's best material to work with). This wasn't corrected in the 3DS port, to boot.
** Also, the European release of the 3DS version wasn't translated to any other language apart from English. Even the instruction booklet, with the exception of the instructions to boot the game, got untranslated.
** While the dub is good on its own, a comparison with the Japanese original reveals that certain subtleties are missing in regards to the ''emotional'' acting. This results in minor LostInTranslation moments, like Jade not actually sounding angry in Deo Pass when he's pointed out to sound so (making that bit of dialogue come off as awkward and strange) or Ion sounding angry when [[spoiler: he protests he's not crying (as he's never done so before]] when in the original he sounds confused [[spoiler: which fits the circumstances better]].
