!!Other Trivia
* For [=SpongeBob=]'s voice, Tom Kenny decided to impersonate an angry little person he met once who was [[SirSwearsALot swearing up a storm]] because [[TypeCasting he only gets auditions for Christmas commercials]]. He also added that Nickelodeon does not like him telling that story.
* Nickelodeon [[DisneyOwnsThisTrope owns the rights to Tom Kenny's SpongeBob voice]], so he is not allowed to use it for any other role.
* Believe it or not, [=SpongeBob=] was actually acknowledged by ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBros'' creator Masahiro Sakurai to be a popular request for a new playable fighter. Unfortunately, Sakurai immediately stated [=SpongeBob=] would never appear in the acclaimed MascotFighter, due to his games released outside Japan and not being originally a video game character.

** Apparently Spike TV asked if the creator would be willing to make a DarkerAndEdgier [=SpongeBob=] show on their network, where Patrick and [=SpongeBob=] would be a gay couple, ala ''[[WesternAnimation/TheRenAndStimpyShow Ren and Stimpy: Adult Party Cartoon]]''. He declined.

* AdoredByTheNetwork: One of the two [[note]]the other being Cartoon Network's ''[[AdoredByTheNetwork/TeenTitansGo Teen Titans Go!]]''[[/note]] poster children for this trope, and ''by far'' the most notorious example. Still Nickelodeon's top show after 15 years [[note]]the first few years during parent Viacom's merger with "America's Most Watched Network" itself, Creator/{{CBS}}[[/note]], and they've obviously decided to [[CashCowFranchise milk it for all its worth.]] Today, Nickelodeon's typical schedule (not counting the Creator/NickJr or Creator/NickAtNite blocks) is comprised almost entirely of either ''[=SpongeBob=]'' or ''WesternAnimation/TheLoudHouse''. It's gotten so bad, the animation fandom (particularly Pan of WebVideo/RebelTaxi) has even coined the term "The [=SpongeBob=] Principle": If a new Nick cartoon comes out and it isn't a smash hit, Nickelodeon will just ignore it, never give it reruns, never promote it, move the premier dates around and dump the last few episodes on their much less popular channel Nicktoons Network while they replace it with more [=SpongeBob=] reruns.

* ScrewedByTheNetwork: On their Nicktoons channel, as it only airs when most people are asleep. You were probably confused when you saw this trope on this page if you don't get Nicktoons. (That's probably because they don't ''need'' to air it on Nicktoons.)

** Nickelodeon and both incarnations of parent company Viacom (the old one that merged with Creator/{{CBS}} when the show began, and the current one spun off from the CBS-acquired-and-renamed old one) has saved the show from two series finales. [[WesternAnimation/TheSpongeBobSquarePantsMovie The movie]] was intended to be a GrandFinale for the series, but the possibility was later pushed to the "[=SpongeBob=]'s Last Stand" special. The show was continued since it was very close to dethroning {{WesternAnimation/Rugrats}} as the longest running Nicktoon, which eventually did when it aired episode 173.
