* WordOfGod: The answers to questions about the series-ending cliffhanger to ''[=SatAM=]'' were eventually discovered in interviews with the writing staff, including some plot threads which were supposed to continue from this point. These include the pair of [[RedEyesTakeWarning sinister red eyes]] glaring at the viewer when the show ended belong belonging to [[spoiler:Naugus]].
Naugus, Snively's HeelFaceTurn, Robotnik becoming Naugus' Right Hand Man as the latter became the series' BigBad, the introduction of Knuckles, and increased prominence for Tails.

** Some [[http://pencilhill.tumblr.com/post/89293050168/more-satam-prototype-designs-from-ebay-bunnie very early prototype designs]] were recently uncovered. Sally was a ''human'' at one stage (and a proto-Seedrian at another), Bunnie had some Creator/{{Disney}}-esque stylization and was organic from the waist up (or [[http://pencilhill.tumblr.com/post/89451121603/more-proto-satam-stuff mechanical from the head down]], in another sketch), and Robotnik, as a likely result of having no visual references, was drawn as both a cyborg-pirate thing, and then a green demon overlord that looked kind of like [[Franchise/TheLegendOfZelda Ganondorf]] if he were drawn by DonBluth.

* KeepCirculatingTheTapes: The DVD set has gone out of print and the show's now gone from Netflix too. The only place it currently reruns is Creator/{{Starz}} Kids & Family, and that's only in the US. And unlike the ''Adventures'' series, it never reran on Creator/ToonDisney (possibly because TD started in April of 1998, at which point USA Network still had the rights; USA dumped their cartoons in September 1998).

* StockSoundEffects: In one episode, the [=SWATBots=] have to tie down a large, dinosaur-like tank that's gone crazy. They accomplish this with tether-launchers which make the same sound as [[BatmanTheAnimatedSeries Batman's grapple-gun]].

* [[FakeNationality Fake Frenchman]]: Antoine, as voiced by Creator/RobPaulsen. His character is a collection of insulting French stereotypes: mispronouncing so many words of English, misspeaking famous quotes, always scared, especially clumsy, constantly getting captured, obsessing with fine cooking and cleanliness, envying the hero and quick to surrender.
* IAmNotShazam: Some of the fans call the sorcerer "Ixis Naugus" (his name from the comics) when, technically, in the show he is simply "Naugus".

** Another strange example is Sally. Her last name (Acorn) is never mentioned in the show proper, although most fans have adopted it from other works (her last name is provided in the show's Bible, as well as featured in the comics and as part of the video game supporting lore).
* NamesTheSame: Sonic is really bad for this. The show shares its official name with no fewer than ''five'' other products: the original video game, the Archie comics, the 2006 video game, a children's novella loosely based on the [=SatAM=] universe, and the franchise as a whole. Oh, and the main character of course. Most fans use the monicker "[=SatAM=]" to distinguish it as a result.

** Even when voicing villains Creator/JimCummings tends to be known for his comedic roles. Robotnik is... decidedly ''not'' [[NightmareFuel comedic]]. His whimsical acting can't help seep through odd times however (especially in Season Two).
* ScrewedByTheNetwork: Despite pulling in solid ratings against ''MightyMorphinPowerRangers'' and being connected to a mega-popular video game series, the show got cancelled for two reasons: one, Creator/{{Disney}} had just bought ABC and decided to clean house concerning their Saturday lineup (which would lead to OneSaturdayMorning emerging a couple years later), and many of ABC's stations tended to delay the lineup or preempt it entirely to air local news. As a result, some people didn't see the show until Creator/USANetwork put it on as part of their ''Action Extreme Team'' block.

** According to the series bible, Nate Morgan from the Archie comics was originally supposed to appear in the show. Also, Snivley's original name was Quizley, and he was Robotnik's second cousin twice removed on his mother's side rather than his nephew. The bible also mentions more sinister renditions of badniks from the games such as Crabmeat and Caterkiller. While a redesigned Buzz Bomber appeared in the pilot, the others made no appearance, though like Nate Morgan made appearances in the early comics.

** Ben Hurst at one point discussed with a SEGA executive about making [[TheMovie a movie]] that would have used the ideas in the unmade third season in 2000, and the executive was interested in talking a bit more about it (all this was happening years after MGM dropped the ''Sonic'' movie license and left their treatment unproduced). Ken Penders (infamous among the fandom for a lawsuit that [[ExiledFromContinuity robbed]] the Archie Comics of quite a few characters), who had heard about it, was offered to help, and he went to represent Ben Hurst. The project was rejected afterward. After being confronted about it, Ken's response was [[NeverMyFault "Ben doesn't know how movies are made in Hollywood."]] With Sony getting the ''Sonic'' film rights in 2014, it's unlikely this will ever be restarted again.
* WordOfGod: The pair of [[RedEyesTakeWarning sinister red eyes]] glaring at the viewer when the show ''ended'' belong to [[spoiler:Naugus]].
* WritingByTheSeatOfYourPants: Very much averted. Ben Hurst had already had the third and fourth season (and possibly more) planned out and ready to go by the time the show was CutShort.
