** "Mr. Monk and the Airplane" featured a brief cameo from Tony Shalhoub's co-star from Series/Wings (Creator/TimDaly) as himself, with Sharona raving about how Wings was her favorite show. Adrian swears he never saw it.

** Monk's standoff with Winston Brenner in Monk's darkened apartment in "Mr. Monk and the Blackout", with Monk wearing nightvision goggles, is similar to the climatic scene in TheSilenceOfTheLambs where Buffalo Bill (Levine) stalks Clarice Starling (JodieFoster) through a dark basement. Coincidentally, Ted Levine and another actor from that movie, Scott Glenn, would later reunite in "Mr. Monk Is On the Run," but in reversed roles, with Glenn playing the villain and Levine being a supporting protagonist.
** In "Mr. Monk Gets Cabin Fever," Monk's alias name in witness protection is "Frank Conway," a reference to Shalhoub's character Kevin Conway in Film/ACivilAction where he costarred with JohnTravolta.

* HideYourPregnancy: Traylor Howard became pregnant before shooting began for the second half of season 5. To avoid causing problems, it was necessary for writers to position Natalie during scenes such that her midsection and below is hidden by items like bags, tables, or car doors. This is evident in "Mr. Monk Makes a Friend" and "Mr. Monk and the Really, Really Dead Guy". In "Mr. Monk Is at Your Service," the writers took advantage of Traylor's pregnancy by incorporating it into the episode. For most of her scenes, Natalie stands or sits in positions that make it so that we see only the section above her chest, (like behind a desk or leaning against her car with the driver's side door open). However, when she needs to rescue Monk from her old obsessive boyfriend, she wards off his advances by stuffing a pillow down her chest. For these scenes, they just filmed her like they would in normal episodes, like in the first half of the season.

* CastingGag: There are several.
** In "Mr. Monk Goes to a Rock Concert," Kris Kedder stole the copyright credit to roadie Stork Murray's song, and kills Stork when the guy threatens to sue him. Kedder's actor Brad Hunt is a minor songwriter, according to the IMDB.
** In "Mr. Monk and the Employee of the Month," Monk's ex-partner Joe Christie is played by Enrico Colantoni, who starred with Tony Shalhoub in Film/GalaxyQuest.
** In "Mr. Monk Joins a Cult," Monk has OCD. The cult leader, Ralph Roberts, is played by Howie Mandel, a big time mysophobe.
** "Mr. Monk, Private Eye" stars Fred Weller as the episode's murderer, Jay Bennett. Weller's cousin Creator/PeterWeller not only directed that episode, but also was the actor playing Captain Stottlemeyer in the TV movie The Killer Astronaut "Mr. Monk and the Actor".
** Episodes where Tony Shalhoub's wife Brooke Adams or his brother Michael appear.
** In "Mr. Monk and the Dog," when Monk is taking care of Amanda Castle's dog Shelby, Natalie hands him a catch-in-action pooper scooper to help him clean up after her. But what's better? It's a Sha-Poopie! Tony's brother Dan pitched it on American Inventor in 2006 but it got rejected.
** In "Mr. Monk Goes to Jail," Monk goes undercover in a prison as cellmate to a convicted quadruple murderer named Darnell "Spyder" Rudner, who is played by Creator/DannyTrejo. Trejo is an actual ex-convict and a reformed gang member.
** Ambrose's onscreen appearances are not the first time that Tony Shalhoub and John Turturro appeared onscreen together. They previously appeared in Film/BartonFink, where Turturro played a playwright and Shalhoub played a producer Turturro's character consulted for advice.

* UnfinishedEpisode: According to an episode guide, there was going to be an episode where the detective solves a murder while on a cruise. The cruise line company that owned the ship was okay with it until they started making numerous demands. The producers eventually decided it was more trouble than it was worth and scrapped the episode. The script didn't go to waste though; it was adapted into the 2014 novel "Mr. Monk Gets on Board".

*** Once this had been done, a few ideas as to how Dr. Kroger would be involved floated around. Having Dr. Kroger help Monk solve the case had to be shot down because this would ruin the clinical doctor-patient detachment. The result is that Dr. Kroger doesn't show up during any of the investigation scenes, and the scene where Dr. Kroger and Monk investigate Francis Merrigan's office has them peer through the window instead of breaking into the office proper because of this.

* TheCharacterDiedWithHim: When Stanley Kamel died of a sudden heart attack on April 8, 2008 during the production hiatus between seasons 6 and 7, the producers decided that there was no way to try recasting a new actor in the role of Dr. Charles Kroger (as Kamel had played the part in close to half of the 93 episodes that had been made to that point) or have him PutOnABus, so the same heart attack fate was given to Dr. Kroger. As a result, "Mr. Monk Buys a House" is unique in that it has a card reading "In loving memory of Stanley Kamel" before the closing credits at the end. The episode also introduced HectorElizondo as Dr. Neven Bell, a therapist to replace the void left by Dr. Kroger for the remaining two seasons of the show. The replacement therapist does seem to have a noticeable effect on the feel of the remaining episodes, especially season 7.
** CharacterOutlivesActor: Dr. Kroger appears in the novels Mr. Monk Goes to Germany and Mr. Monk is Miserable, both of which were published after Stanley Kamel's death. However, they were both set prior to "Mr. Monk Is On the Run".

* HeyItsThatGuy: Most of the cast have been supporting actors / actresses for years.
** Tony Shalhoub was cabbie Antonio Scarpacci on Wings. He also played a Lebanese-American FBI agent working with DenzelWashington in Film/TheSiege, and was the comic relief of pawnshop owner Jack Jeebs from the Film/MenInBlack movies, where he was subjected to TommyLeeJones blowing his head off multiple times.
** Monk hired the gal from Series/TwoGuysAGirlAndAPizzaPlace to be his assistant.
** Jason Gray-Stanford is a long-time anime voice actor.
** Jame "Buffalo Bill" Gumb got tired of skinning women in Ohio, so he joined the SFPD and became a captain.
** "Mr. Monk Takes Manhattan" becomes hilarious when you notice Stottlemeyer's tension and friction with NYPD Robbery-Homicide Captain Walter Cage. That's because Captain Cage is played by Mykelti Williamson. Williamson and Levine worked together playing cops in Film/Heat, where they were respectively Sgt. Drucker and Det. Bosko, two of Lt. Vincent Hanna's plainclothes detectives.
** And a few familiar faces pop up throughout the series, including Adam Arkin as Dale the Whale, Simon Templeman and Michael Hogan in the pilot.
** Michael Weston turned up in "Mr. Monk and the Astronaut" to stage his girlfriend's death before his brief career as a test pilot. It must have been one of his early missions, just because he got caught.
** Bulldog is an amoral surgeon in "Mr. Monk Goes to the Hospital".
** "Mr. Monk Goes to a Fashion Show" gives us Alex DeLarge as a snobbish fashion designer.
** "Mr. Monk and the Big Game" has JenniferLawrence, the future Katniss Everdeen, play Julie's basketball team mascot.
** Apparently Elliot T. Jindrake, after being fired, decided to start practicing law.
** Robert Barone took up the job of a crooked handyman in "Mr. Monk Buys a House".
** Joe quit being Mia's chauffeur and took up psychiatry.
** NYPDBlue Sylvia Costas Sipowicz is Stottlemeyer's girlfriend in seasons 5 and 6.
** In "Mr. Monk, Private Eye", Marshall Mann is the guy who hit Linda's car.
** In "Mr. Monk Goes to a Rock Concert", when Kendra Frank ropes Monk and Natalie into investigating her boyfriend Stork's murder, you think that since she's played by Tamara Feldman, she's obviously Marybeth Dunston using an alias name to hide from Victor Crowley.
** Major Zero is the drifter a blind Monk is forced to try identifying while blind in "Mr. Monk Can't See A Thing."
*** In that same episode, we see Eddie Murdoch use a shovel to kill Dulles Chief Engineer Leslie Barnes and blind Monk.
** Looks like Castiel also moonlights as a mob boss.
** Randy's mom falls in love with the future mayor of Gotham City. When he turns out to be a criminal, she decides to start seeing Bobby Singer.
** From the same episode, Sgt. Calhoun apparently has a second job as a marriage counselor.
** I had no idea that one of the friends of Dr. Kroger's son was Mac.
** Looks like Wayne Palmer survived his assassination attempt and has taken up a career as a medical doctor. Or maybe it's Robin Wood and he's taken a break from helping the Slayer?
** Wait a minute... you mean to tell me that is Coach Coach Hayden Fox?!
** Speaking of survivals, I guess Sabretooth lived and went on to become a bounty hunter in "Mr. Monk and the Big Reward".
*** With one of the other bounty hunters played by DJ Qualls, who is a computer geek, possibly alluding back to his stint as a hacker in Film/TheCore.
*** And before he was holding Tony Stark captive, Raza was a museum tour guide.
** The man who buries Monk alive and also killed Richard Wilkins in "Mr. Monk vs. the Cobra" is MarkSheppard, aka Crowley. He also was FBI Agent Canton Delaware in the two part premiere to season 6 of Series/DoctorWho.
*** And in the same episode, he gets some helpful advice from .
** Dwight Schrute just so happens to be the murderer in the baseball episode.
** In "Mr. Monk and the Bully", the wife of Monk's childhood nemesis is Claire Dunphy. And Roderick Brody used to be Truman Burbank's best friend.
** The newlywed girl in "Mr. Monk Gets Drunk" is a nice cameo from actress FeliciaDay.
** Anya Jenkins is a teacher who tries to convince Sharona she's crazy.
** turns out to be Meg Manning.
** Creator/LaurenTom appears in "Mr. Monk and the 12th Man" as the dry cleaner typically annoyed by Monk's habits and also serves as a ChekhovsGunman within the episode.
** Apparently Wayne Fiscus became a cult leader.
** According to "Mr. Monk and the Naked Man," Oswald Harvey decided to abandon the Squirrel Nut Zippers shirts (and clothes altogether).
*** Or maybe Batman just decided to ditch his costume for a while.
** Creator/PeterWeller, best known for playing the titular character of the original Franchise/RoboCop franchise, cameos as an actor portraying Captain Stottlemeyer in "Mr. Monk and the Actor". The PornStache further increases the odds you won't recognize him, but if you're familiar with his voice, you'll be like, "Oh, that's who he is!" Weller also directed the episode "Mr. Monk, Private Eye," which starred his cousin Fred Weller as the murderer Jay Bennett.
*** In another tie between Franchise/RoboCop and this show, the guy who plays the actual murderer in "Mr. Monk and the Other Woman" is Patrick Garrow, who plays a crime boss that tries killing Alex Murphy with a car bomb in the 2014 reboot film.
** In "Mr. Monk Goes to the Bank," Dan Castellaneta, the actor who voices Homer Simpson, is the pawnshop owner.
** "Mr. Monk Goes to Jail" sees Monk befriend Darnell "Spyder" Rudner, an inmate played by Creator/DannyTrejo. Trejo seems quite at home as he actually is a reformed gang member who did time before turning to acting (although you can tell he's still being typecast as an aggressive person from the criminal lifestyle).
** In "Mr. Monk and the Leper," you see Paul Blackthorne as Officer, er, Doctor Quentin Lance, who turns out to have had leprosy.
** Marv is the small-town sheriff in "Mr. Monk and the UFO"
** In "Mr. Monk Goes to the Dentist," we see Happy Hogan as a dentist who tortures Monk for information about stolen bonds.
** The guy who dies under suspicious circumstances in "Mr. Monk Gets Drunk" is Deputy U.S. Marshal Bobby Biggs.
** Ted Beneke apparently lived another life as a police detective before he cooked his company's books. Furthermore, George Merkert was the very well-hated boss of the sanitation union.
** Bob became a police commissioner.
** That girl customer seen when Monk and the others question Joseph Wheeler in "Mr. Monk Gets a New Shrink" is played by Kiernan Shipka, better known to many as Sally Draper from Series/MadMen.
** D,A. Robert McCoy was Ambrose's next door neighbor in "Mr. Monk and the Three Pies," while Garrett Moore was a TV station manager in "Mr. Monk Gets Lotto Fever".
