* LimitedSpecialCollectorsUltimateEdition: The ''Final Mix'' version includes a ton of extra content compared to vanilla ''Kingdom Hearts II'', and it is topped by ''Final Mix+'', which contains on top of that a remake of ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsChainOfMemories''. While the latter eventually made it to North America as a standalone game, neither ''Final Mix'' nor ''Final Mix+'' were released outside of Japan until a ''third'' UpdatedRerelease: ''Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 [=ReMIX=]''.

* RoleEndingMisdemeanor: Between ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsI'' and this game, Billy Zane starred in the Turkish film ''Valley Of The Wolves: Iraq''. It portrayed American soldiers fighting in Iraq as monsters, earning severe criticism and getting the movie declared "Anti-American Propaganda" by many critics. Creator/{{Disney}} decided they didn't want him working on the series anymore due to the controversy, so his role as Ansem, Seeker of Darkness was recast to Creator/RichardEpcar, including for flashback scenes.

* ExecutiveMeddling: Creator/TetsuyaNomura had originally planned to only include ''Franchise/FinalFantasy'' characters that he personally designed, as he is more familiar with them. He eventually caved in to the urging of the staff, which is how Setzer from ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyVI'' and Vivi from ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyIX'' were added to the game.

* MissingTrailerScene:
** Donald freezing himself with a ricocheting Blizzard after waking up from his memory-restoring sleep.
** A scene of the trio beating off a gaggle of Neoshadows and chasing after a black-coated man on the outside wall of Hollow Bastion, not to mention the world looked exactly like how it was back in the first game.
** The TV spot released in North America featured Sora fighting Axel, which wasn't present in the original game.
** Deep Dive is not a scene from ''Kingdom Hearts II''. It's a scene from ''VideoGame/KingdomHearts358DaysOver2''.
** Roxas chases the Dusk thief through the streets of Twilight Town, and it escapes by flying into a wall and vanishing.
** Axel walks closer to the far wall in the scene before his fight with Roxas; as he approaches it, he looks back at Roxas and grins a SlasherSmile.
** The Kingdom Hearts version of Hollow Bastion, specifically the Great Crest, appears as the place where Sora first met the surviving members of the Organization, after the trio slays a horde of Neoshadows.
** Sora meets King Mickey in his ''Kingdom Hearts II'' attire before visiting the Mysterious Tower.
** Sora was shown on the Dark Margin and holding his Keyblade up to something like he was getting ready to seal a keyhole.

* KeepCirculatingTheTapes: Creator/{{Tokyopop}}'s old translation of the first two volumes are pretty much this, especially after Creator/YenPress made a whole new translation.
* ScrewedByTheNetwork: Creator/{{Tokyopop}}'s original English release was this after only two volumes, thanks in part to a resturucturing of the company. When Tokyopop went under for a few years, it was uncertain on whether the manga would continue in the states. Fortunately, Creator/YenPress came to the rescue.
