** Apparently, Soichiro was supposed to have a major role in the plot according to some concept art, particularly where he is with Mako and there is some dialogue. Likewise, he was also supposed to be in a wheelchair and bald. * Symbolism: This is a good run-down of much of the mythological symbolism used in the series. It involves TheFourGods (The Kiryuin Conglomerate, though there seems to be no one for Seiryu), The Four Devas of Hinduism (The Elite Four), Chakras, some Japanese history (which puts Satuski in OdaNobunaga's role of attempting to unite Japan), and the placement of the REVOCS building (IsTheCenterOfTheUniverse) and the academy (where Tokyo's three rivers converge).

** Nui Harime is heavily based off of Nia Teppelin. Both are Artificial Humans created by the true Big Bads of their respective stories, share similar designs (including unusual eye featuresNui has the eyepath whilst Nia has ExoticEyeDesigns), have similarly-spelled first names, and their deaths involve the BigBad (Ragyo Kiryuin, Nui's creator, orders her to commit suicide to be absorbed into the Primordial Life Fiber whilst Nia fades away after the Anti-Spiral is defeated). The only difference is that Nui is a full-on villain as well as a troll whilst Nia tries to fight the Anti-Spiral's control on her.

** The designs and, to an extent, the personalities of the main protagonist and antagonist are reminiscent of Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLagann characters Simon and Rossiu, respectively. The entire show could even be considered as TTGL[='=]s SpiritualSuccessor.

The entire show could even be considered as TTGL[='=]s SpiritualSuccessor. For that matter, Ryuko fills in the role of Simon but has Kamina's personality, Satsuki fills in the role of Lordgenome, the Elite Four fill in the role of the Four Generals, and Ragyo fills in the role of the Anti-Spiral.
