Sorry, my previous edit was published early by mistake. The explanation for the edits is as follows: character conception and design were handled at Hasbro before the finalised named characters were sent to Sunbow Productions for the show staff to integrate into the show. Marx was responsible for creating a personality and backstory within the framework of what Hasbro intended the character to be. Additionally, there is a persistent misunderstanding of the design process and the origin of the characters on multiple pages for this show. Common misconceptions seem to stem from misinformation mistakenly published in a Q&A style segment in the back of the IDW Jem comics - such as the idea Jetta was "intended to be black" when the situation was actually that Marx, when told she would be sent new characters to include, had asked about the possibility of including a black Misfit, independent of being sent Jetta for incorporation to the show.

* DummiedOut: Graphix was a character designed and planned for the cartoon, but the show was cancelled before she could appear. In the comics, Sophie Campbell gave her a design and fleshed out her personality in ways the original concept didn't explore, making this version of the character the first to appear in any officially licensed ''and'' published material.

* DummiedOut: Graphix was a new Misfit doll designed for the 1987 assortment before being put on hold, as there were already two new Misfit dolls that year. The character designed was tentatively moved back to 1988 for a slated release alongside a reissued Clash doll and planned a redesigned, friendlier-looking Pizzazz doll. Subsequently, the slated 1988 Misfit assortment was put on hold altogether, pending sales results from the Spring/Summer 1988 assortments. At the time of the cartoon's cancellation, she was not an intended product and was thus not featured. She was, however, included in the series bible by Christy Marx at what appears to be a period in her design process where she was potentially being retooled for inclusion in the cartoon, but line without an affiliation to the show was cancelled before she could appear. The origins of this relate to the producers didn't like way the idea of a black villain. They gave new characters were created: being designed and named at Hasbro before being sent to the show staff for them to add to the cast. When Christy Marx was told there was to be a new Misfit she asked about the possibility of a black Misfit, wanting to diversify the group, and was told that it had been deemed offensive to have minority antagonists. When Christy Marx was then given Jetta as the new member, she was told she had the choice between Jetta of the new character being white and either English or Australian or [[EvilBrit British]] instead.if she wanted to differentiate her from the existing Misfits, as these were deemed acceptable targets.

* CreatorBacklash: The singing voice to Jem, Britta Phillips, does not seem to like being reminded of the series. However, fortunately for fans, this may be becoming a thing of the past, as she was a willing special guest at the panel for [=JemCon=] 2015, which is an annual fan convention of the show, which she also attended with her mother.

It didn't get much tie-in media beyond a single Creator/DICEntertainment-created special (and a follow-up when Mattel attempted to retool it as ''Barbie and the Sensations'' with a 50s theme).
