* FanDumb: Before nuDante had his hairstyle altered and face changed to resemble his actor, [[http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/devilmaycry/images/1/12/Dante_dmc_2010.jpg he had quite a different appearance]]. which led people to (stupidly) claim that Tameem (the game's chief designer) based Dante's initial new hairstyle on himself, when in-fact the opposite was true. and Tameem got a haircut for advertisement purposes when first revealing the game.

** Dante: Donte. Or DINO ([[FunWithAcronyms Dante In Name Only]]). Or Not Dante. Or [[AuthorAvatar Tameem]] (even though the resemblance was initially coincidental, then designed away almost completely). Or [[InkSuitActor Tim]]. Or [[MemeticMutation Fuck You]]. Or [[MythologyGag Enzo]]. Or [[SdrawkcabName Etnad]]. Or [[OverlyLongGag Dainty]]. Or [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking neo Dante]].

* CowboyBebopAtHisComputer: Controversy broke out over Dante reportedly killing an unborn child/pregnant mother in order to proceed during the game's plot - possibly [[ButThouMust forcing the hand of the player]]. Except that does not occur in the game at any point -- it's ''Vergil'' who [[spoiler:kills an unarmed mother and her child, via sniper bullet, to Dante's obvious mixed horror and shock, in a cutscene that makes it clear that's what the audience is also supposed to be feeling]]. The closest that Dante gets to anything that low is fighting a gigantic demonic "baby" beast ordered into battle by its equally-demonic mother, who can turn herself inside out to release it and is definitely evil; what's more, Dante makes a point of defeating them without killing them and taking them hostage.

* HeyItsThatVoice:
** In the French dub, [[NobleDemon Phineas]] is voiced by Benoît Allemane, [[Manga/FullmetalAlchemist whose voice has been passed down the Armstrong line for generations!]] He is also known as the voice of [[VideoGame/LegacyOfKain Kain.]]
** In English, Vergil is voiced by David de Lautour, who played RJ in ''Series/PowerRangersJungleFury''. As such, he's the fifth actor involved with the series to have ties to the ''Franchise/PowerRangers'' franchise and is the only one whose character's original incarnation was also voiced by a ''PR'' alum (Vergil was voiced by Daniel Southworth in ''[=DMC3=]'', Southworth previously portraying [[Series/PowerRangersTimeForce Eric Meyers/the Quantum Ranger]]).
*** And fittingly enough, he's the first one to come the from Disney owned-era of the show, with the voice actors involved in the original games all coming from the first Saban-era.

** The game itself: ''Creator/TimBurton's VideoGame/DevilMayCry'', ''Dante May Cry'', [=DMC5=] (which it is ''officially'' not, but shorter to type than "Ninja Theory's [=DmC=])".

Except that does not occur in the game at any point -- it's ''Vergil'' who [[spoiler:kills both unarmed mother and child, via sniper bullet, to Dante's obvious shock]]. The closes that Dante gets is fighting a very much born child, but it's a gigantic demonic beast ordered into battle by its equally-demonic mother, who can turn herself inside out to release it and is definitely evil. He actually ''can't'' kill the child and has no intention of doing so, and while he does take both child and mother hostage, he's noticeably disturbed and uncomfortable.
