** Bette Midler also took a role in this for the same reason she would later do Disney/OliverAndCompany: she wanted to be in a movie her daughter Sophie could see.

* SoMyKidsCanWatch: Molly Ringwald took the role of Anne so that she could be in a movie that would be appropriate for her child fans. She later regretted this decision seeing how controversial this turned out.

* UrbanLegendOfZelda: The following hoaxes have been spread about this film:
** That you can see Anne in the Franchise/DisneyPrincess merchandise and art. (not true, even if you squint)
** That this movie inspired characters for WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic. (Although some who saw it did report similarities in character, the myth's especially popular among fan haters)
** That there were plans to make this into an off-Broadway stage musical. (Popularized by Nash Bozard, who thought it was true)
** That Disney took everything to do the film and threw it into a fire. (A joke spread by history buffs in reference to Nazi BookBurning. They actually just abandoned most of the pre-production materials in soon-to-be-condemned salt mines)
** That Disney are responsible for the film's leak. (Source unknown, this has been neither confirmed nor denied)
** Some people have claimed that watching the movie while listening to the Music/LeonardCohen album The Future results in surprising (and creepy) sync-ups between the music and what's on the screen. If this is the case then it is purely unintentional.

* Banned in Germany: And just about everywhere else, for that matter.

* CultClassic: The film, despite its rarity and extremely ill repute, has still gained a tiny, largely anonymous yet persistent fanbase. For more in-depth information, see MisaimedFandom.

** There was some talk of the film being brought into the VideoGame/KingdomHearts saga. There was even a planned scene of Mickey Mouse himself fighting through a wave of Nazis all on his own and friggin' killing Hitler! (who's evil was so strong he could control the Heartless) Sadly, this idea was scrapped.

* TheOtherMarty: Initially (re: 1984), the film's cast was slightly different: Creator/LaraJillMiller (at the time starring on Series/GimmeABreak) as Anne, a then-unknown Creator/RiverPhoenix as Peter, Patty Duke as Olga, and Valerie Landsburg as Margot. Timothy Dalton and Christopher Walken were still in their respective roles of Ludvig (then named Sigmund) and Mengele, while Creator/MadelineKahn, Alfonso Ribero and Creator/RobbieRist were cast in unspecified rolesKahn's character is speculated to be a precursor to Marie Rose-Blanche, while Ribero and Rist were reportedly both considered for the role of Fritz Pfeiffer. While it is still unknown which of the two got the part (they're not telling), other rumors circulate that Rist was cast as an early version of Miep. Only about a week into her recording sessions, Miller was told that her Anne was "too sincere" for then-screenwriter Creator/HarlanEllison's vision, and she was replaced by the slightly grittier Creator/MollyRingwald. It is unknown how much the other actors completed (if at all) before they too were booted, though some of Miller's voicework was worked into the final film: She "plays" a young Auschwitz prisoner who has one or two lines during the scene leading up to the shower dance.
