** Creator/GuillermoDelToro wanted to do a remake where Kay ends up falling in love with Gill Man and going off with him. Universal refused, likely because it would interfere with their plans at the time for the Franchise/DarkUniverse, so he reworked his idea into ''Film/TheShapeOfWater''.

* AccidentallyAccurate: Oddly, the drunken Riverboat captain's statement that the Creature is "stronger than that which you call evolution" was probably a more accurate explanation for how evolution actually works than the "scientists" who seem to believe that [[EvolutionaryLevels a "living fossil" like the creature is "less evolved" than more recent creatures.]] The truth is, such creatures happen because they've achieved a form that's more-or-less ideal to their environment, and any deviations would be out-competed.

* CutSong: "At the Hop" was to have been included as one of the songs, but it was removed from the final version, as it was too cost prohibitive. The voice clips for the song can be found via [=PinMAME=].

* ViewersAreMorons: The two stuntmen who played the Gillman (one for swimming and one on land) were not credited, because the studio honeslty thought it would make audiences believe that it was a real monster. Eh, can't blame them for trying.

** The "Joe's Diner" mode from ''Pinball/TheFlintstones'' has a similar premise; instead of an irate moviegoer at a drive-''in'', it's an impatient drive-thru customer at a drive-''thru''. The exact same animation of the guy shouting "MOVE YOUR CAR!" (minus the drive-in setting, obviously) was recycled for this new mode.
